Hi.

I want to buy a new system. I think I've all figured out, except for the graphic card.

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming, general use.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
USD 700.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
US (Amazon web site, I don't have an US credit card so can't buy from newegg).

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
No preference.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
1 SATA HD, IDE dvd burner, IDE CD Burner, audigy sound card, keyboard, mouse, 17" monitor, case.

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Yes.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
No overclocking.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
In one week.

These are the things I plan to buy:

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 ($164.90)

Motherboard:
Asus P5QE ($161.86)

Memory:
Corsair DHX 4 GB (2 X 2 GB) 240-pin DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit
TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX ($73.99)

PSU:
CORSAIR 520W HX (620W HX if the price drops a little) ($107.90/$156.83)

GPU:
Not sure. I can't decide between these three:
Diamond HD 4870 ($307.43)
EVGA GTX260 Core 216 ($249.99)
HIS HD 4850 ($196.25)

OS:
XP Pro SP2 (from my old system)

I play games like The Witcher, The Sims and Oblivion, and from time to time I like to play older games. Next year I'll be buying a 22" monitor (LG L227WT). I don't know if the 4870 or even the 216 are an overkill for the games I like and for the monitor I have (or the one I want to buy).
I also like to know if I'll need extra cooling. I don't plan to overclock, but I've read that the 4870 can get really hot and that worries me (I live on a tropical country and it's already pretty hot here sometimes).

Also, I have an EVGA GT 7600 from my old (and now broken) AMD system. I was wondering if it is possible to use this card (along with the new one) in my new build to use its VIVO funtions. I'm not talking about SLI here nor anything like it. I only want to know if I can have both cards, use the new one as my primary video card and occasionally use the 7600 to record tv shows on my pc. Would it be to messy to install NVIDIA and ATI drivers on one system? Are there any other potential conflicts and it's better that I forget about my old card?

Excuse my english and thank you in advance

Yes, but you need and US verified paypal that only works if your credit card is issued from an US bank...

This chart might help you decide.

However, I believe Tom's only has benchies for the old nVidia 260, so expect better numbers from the 216 version...which I think would make this the best price/performance card.

What country are you located in Vinka? Newegg does not ship internationally so if you don't live in the USA they are out of the question.

If you do live in the USA, you can purchase and use a Money Order to pay for your order from Newegg. It may also be possible for you to purchase a pre-paid credit card to use. You basically deposit money into an activated credit card that you can then use to pay for items from Newegg.

Akugami, TidusZ:
I live in Venezuela. Regretfully Newegg (and most online retailers) are out of the question. Believe me, I've searched...

Thanks Slugbait! It's a pity that the chart only has FPS games, but I think that you're right: the 216 seems to hit the sweet spot.

I originally wanted and NVIDIA card (simply because I've always used NVIDIA) but reading posts in this forum made me doubt: the ATI HD48XX is very popular here... but as I don't plat Crysis and don't own a 30" monitor I didn't want to buy the best (priciest) card just for the sake of it.

Now, besides the online store where I can buy my stuff, anyone has anything more to say about the questions regarding the graphics card I want to buy or the problems I could get into if I were to use my old GT 7600 and a new card on the same system?

One more thing: On my budget I didn't add the PSU, so the right amount would be $800, but I expect it to be less 'cause I'm going the place my order on Black Friday.
