Heya,

The 955 Black for the price is way better for the CPU. Forget the whole `unlocking' thing. It's like $20 more. Get a garunteed Quad with L3 cache that you can clock up to 3.8ghz on air with relative ease; if you so choose.

Anyhow, what's the purpose of the system? That's a lot of computing power. More than I imagine anyone needs for basic duty. It's a workstation at this point. But it can't game for squat without a solid GPU. As it is, this machine would be in my mind a mid-high level workstation for video editing, photo shopping, code compilation, productivity, design, etc. But not for gaming. And it's way, way overkill for typical web browsing/downloading/flash.

Heya,

In that case, you're way ahead of yourself for your needs. Even future needs. The only thing you need for `some games' is a decent GPU.

In the sub-$100 range:

Geforce 9600 GSO 1Gb - $70
Geforce GT 240 - $89
Radeon HD 4830 512MB - $95

If you're willing to go beyond that:

Radeon HD 5770 1Gb - $155
Geforce GTX 260 896MB - $179

And beyond that, the GTX 275, the HD4890, the GTX295 and the HD5850 and HD5870, or HD5970.

The rest of your components are great. More than you need for the stuff you described.

And a tri-core or quadcore won't make a lick of difference in your gaming experience, beyond a simple dual core. It's mostly the GPU that does the talking there if you want to game. Some games do respond from a better CPU, but they're few and far between and typically only in situations where the GPU is so powerful that the CPU can't keep up if it's not geared up.
