New build won't wake from sleep w/ USB keyboard/mouse

New build:
MSI P55-GD55 motherboard (I know, piece of junk)
Intel Core i7 860 CPU
4GB A-Data Dual-Channel DDR3 (9-9-9-24)
BFG NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 GPU
Logitech G15 keyboard (rev 2 w/ red backlighting)
Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 "gaming" mouse (plugged-in through the G15 keyboard's built-in hub)

I can't wake the system from sleep with my Logitech G15 keyboard or the mouse that's connected through it! It's driving me INSANE!

I'm using one of the worst P55 motherboards ever, I know...but it just can't have a flaw like this without some kind of fix or workaround...right? I know this keyboard is more complicated than most because the system would see a hub and composite device. Also, the mouse is connected through the keyboard's built-in USB hub.

I haven't finished modifying my Antec 900 case, so the power switch isn't connected to the motherboard yet (won't reach). That's shouldn't be a big deal because there is a power button built-on to the motherboard...but it is a big deal because I can't wake the system from sleep without opening it up.

I don't want to disable sleep entirely because I *do* want it to save power and kill the fans (so it doesn't suck in dust all day long).

I've checked every BIOS setting I can find. The only one that even seems appropriate is "Power Management Setup" > "Wake Up Event Setup" > "Wake up Event By"

There are two options: "OS" and "BIOS"

With "Optimized defaults" loaded, this option is set to "BIOS". I changed it to "OS," booted up, and went to the Device Manager. I set to view devices by connection, then checked properties for everything USB-related. For each device / hub / controller, I unchecked the options to "Allow Windows to turn off this device" and enabled the "allow this device to wake the computer" option wherever applicable.

Still, I can't wake the computer via the keyboard or mouse. I changed the option to BIOS control, which enables selections like:
"Resume From S3 By USB Device"
"Resume S3/S5 By PS/2 Keyboard"
"Resume S3/S5 By PS/2 Mouse"
"Resume By PCI Device (PME#)"
"Resume By PCI-E Device"
"Resume By RTC Alarm"

I believe these were all "Disabled" by default (!!!?). I enabled PS/2 Keyboard, PS/2 Mouse, PCI Device (PME#), and PCI-E Device. No effect. I tested with the USB Legacy Support option enabled and with it disabled. No effect.

Though I'm using the same keyboard / mouse as I have with previous systems, I suspect that it's my specific keyboard / mouse configuration that confuses BIOS on this MSI board. It's a Logitech G15 (the revised one w/ red backlighting) and a Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000 plugged through the keyboard's built-in USB hub.

Because the keyboard appears as a USB hub / composite device, and the mouse runs through the keyboard's hub, I think the motherboard assumes there's no keyboard / mouse on that USB port and shuts off power to the ports when it goes to sleep. I have updated to the latest BIOS from MSI before I ever noticed this issue.

Is there something I forgot to check, or do I need to call MSI?

while I cant comment on your specific problem, I've used my G15 v2 to wake several MSI boards, including an H55-GD55, an H55-GD65. however, I plugged my mouse directly into the USB back panel on the board. I've never needed to change anything in the bios to make wake from USB work with the G15.

try plugging the mouse in directly to the mobo and put it to sleep and see if it works.

Must modify registry in XP for USB mouse. Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

(then, in Services, make a NEW KEY):

usb

(then, in usb, a new DWORD):

USBBIOSx

(leave it at):

00000000

If you don't know how to do this properly, get a friend to help.():)

I tried what you said fdtopp3 . I enter the info into the registry . I know have the option to allow mouse or keyboard to wake the computer from sleep . But there is one little problem . The computer won't completely shut down into sleep mode . All the fans , hard drive and dvd and cd roms stay active. Then in a few seconds , the computer turns the monitor back on from sleep and a quick message flashes by saying something about a usb power surge , I cant catch the rest of the message . Do I need to add more to the registry key or change the settings you posted . I know this is awhile after you posted your answer , but I just built a computer from some new parts that sat around in the box for a few years . They are all new parts . Computer works perfect except the wake up part . Now it won't go to sleep and stay .

Are there 2 threads here?
XP - WTF?

anyways, if you (ichinisan) are using Win 7, just for giggles, try disabling power service in admin tools/services, and just use bios
its always this conflicting crap in sleep hibernate
other than that, your stuff is just not mainstream

This thread was dead for 10 months.

Tom, start a new thread with your questions and provide us with more details about your computer.
