New build won't start

So I just finished this new computer and I can't get it to boot.

The light on the motherboard works, but when I press the power button nothing comes on and none of the fans spin. I've tried manually starting the pc without the button and it won't work either.

The light on the motherboard that lights up when you actually turn the computer on even works when I press the power button, so it's strange.

I've tried using one stick of ram, no video card, etc. Nothing will get it to boot or the fans to spin.

My specs:

Intel E8500
EVGA 750i FTW motherboard
8 GB G.Skill RAM
GTX 260 SLI
Corsair 1000HX PSU

My guess is either the motherboard or psu. Any ideas?

Thanks.

PSU fan spinning? Make sure the power button cord is plugged correctly into the motherboard?

No, PSU fan isn't spinning either. Everything is plugged in tightly.

I tested the PSU with a multimeter, but could only get a reading on the 5V rail since it won't turn on.

modular switch on back of psu? pressure sensitive switch? sounds like PSU problem, or that the motherboard is not starting the psu. re-check your cables. You have 3 power connections from psu to motherboard, 1 stick of ram, 1 gpu and no post?

try with mobo out of case?

try starting mobo/cpu/ram with another psu?

Try jumpering your PSU (with it disconnected from all your system components) to make sure it's functional. You can read instructions on how to do this here.

seems like a faulty psu, but try taking all the ram out so its just mobo and psu plugged in... do you get the "put some damn ram in me" beeps? if so i suspect psu is the problem.

Well, I made some progress...

The motherboard itself has it's own power button on the motherboard, I tried that and it turned on this time. The reason I hadn't tried this button before is because i've used this board in another system I built and I didn't need to use it then.

The standard power connector still won't work using a screwdriver or the actual case power connector. I don't want to have to reach inside my case every time I turn on my computer, so I don't know what's wrong with the switch itself.

I was gonna say sounds like P/S since battery powered light on mobo still working, with what u just said though I'd check your connections between the case and motherboard, the power switch cable mainly.

Well, I know it's making the connection. When I use a screwdriver or the case button, it will light up the power button on the motherboard. So, beats me why it's not actually turning it on.

make sure you're connect the correct two pins. Use a jumper or piece of metal - like the screwdriver

Like I said, the screwdriver won't work either. I don't know if something is wrong with the pins themselves or what.

Any more thoughts on why the power pins on the motherboard aren't working? Could they just be bad?
