New build won't power up

Hello all,

I just built a new PC. At first when i plugged it in and hit the power button, it turned on, but made a loud screeching noise (I forgot to plug in the PCI-E power plug for the video card). I turned it off, plugged the cable in, and powered on again. This time, nothing would come up on the monitor. I've had this problem before building PC's, so I unplugged everything and started to tinker around. I thought maybe the motherboard wasn't mounted properly or something, so I re-did that, and made sure all the cables were in the right place, etc.

Next time I tried to turn it on, nothing happened. No power, no nothing. Any idea what's going on?

My hardware:

Gigabyte GA-P31-S3G mobo
Intel Quad Core Q6600
Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS
4GB G.Skill PC-6400 DDR2 RAM
Antec Earthwatts EA500 500W power supply

Are all the power connectors plugged in - including the square 4 pin by the CPU?

Do all the fans turn freely, especially the CPU fan.

Is the PSU turned back on - since he took it all apart again?

when i first turned it on, the fans spun. but now nothing goes, no fans, no lights, nothing. Also, everything is plugged in.

It sounds like either a bad PSU or the CPU fan is not connected to the MB.

Did you check that the fans move freely by hand? Something could have fallen in and locked one up or something.

Yeah, I can push them, and they go fine. The fan hooked up to the case is not working either, so it might be the PSU. How would I know if it was the motherboard?

Ok, so I tried using the power supply from my computer (Enermax Liberty 400W), but that also did not work. However, I have a new problem. I tried plugging everything back into the computer I took it from, and now that won't turn on (same problem as the other computer). When I press the power button, I hear a click, which I am assuming is the PSU, but nothing else happens. Help please!
