New build won't power up

OK, got all the components hooked up:
A8n-E mobo
x2 4200
CDrom
Floppy
Seagate HD
Ultra 500w PS
ATI X300

This is set up outside the case and when I turned on the PS, only the green LED in the mobo lit up.

All connections are good. What am I missing?

Where's the ram? 🙂

Durr... you might want to clear the mobo of electricity for a while... unplug the psu from the mobo, press power/reset a few times... Wait a while, and try again.

Sorry, used GSkill2x1gb and it's inserted correctly per the Asus manual.

The PSU's fan did not even power up either. So if the LED on the mobo lit up, there has to be power being supplied.

I set up everything outside of the case, including the mobo. I wanted to make sure everything powers up before stuffing it back in there.

Strip the MB. Reset CMOS. Connect the two PSU plugs, the mouse, the keyboard, and one stick of RAM. Now short the power pins on the MB to start. If no beep, then reseat the CPU and retest. Still no go? Try a new PSU, CPU, MB, or another stick of RAM.

How do you strip the mobo? The keyboard is the only thing connected, no mouse.

What did happen this morning is this:

While the PSU is turned on, I loosely wiggled the 24 pin connector and the chipset fan and the cpu fan started turning (on then off, on then off). The PSU fan tried to turn too and it made this clicking sound, but it didn't spin at all.

Could this be a bad PSU?

did u install the aux power connector as well?could be simple as a fan not connected to mother board or small wires to mb installed incorrect etc

Strip...same condition as when you unpacked the board.

You don't have a good connection if the PC comes on when you wiggle the 24-pin plug. Ultra stuffs are CRAPS. There two power connectors to the MB...24 pin and the square 4 pin.

Which power button do you mean? If you're talking about the case power button, it's not. The whole set up is outside the case. I'm testing at this point before stuffing it back into the case.

Yep, the mobo is connected to the mobo tray using the standoffs.

I checked the underside of the mobo to make sure it's not making contact with any metal.

Yep, the 4 pin and the 24 pin are both plugged to the mobo.

All these events are leading me to believe it's the PSU who is at fault.
