Troubleshooting - No POST

  1. Overview of the problem
My new build won't POST. The motherboard seems ok: the CPU fan has power and runs, the case fan runs, all the indicator lights on the motherboard light up, and the video card fan runs, but the motherboard does not beep at all when the power is switched on.

  2. Full description of the problem and symptoms
I'm not really sure what else to say other than I guess it must be the motherboard or the processor. I just don't have a way to tell which one. I don't know anyone else with an LGA775 motherboard that I can test the CPU in. I tried re-seating the CPU a couple of times, but it seems pretty idiot proof with the way the notches are setup. Again, the motherboard seems to power up. I can hear fans and even motors (not sure if this is the HDD or the optical drive). The motherboard has 4 indicator LEDs right next to the ATX power socket. I have not been able to figure out what, specifically, these indicator LED's mean. They are labeled "Phase 1", "Phase 2", "Phase 3", and "Phase 4". All four LED light up simultaneously almost as soon as the system is switched on, they do not flicker and they do not turn off. "Phase 1" and "Phase 2" are green LEDs, "Phase 3" is orange, and "Phase 4" is red. after reading the manual and looking online at Gigabyte's site I have not seen any reference to them.

  3. Did it work normally at one time, or has the problem always existed?

Unfortunately, this is a new build and has never worked.

  4. Is the problem consistent and repeatable, or entirely random, or semi-random?

The motherboard has never posted. 100% failure rate.

  5. I already tried these steps:
(list any troubleshooting steps you've already tried, along with any results you got. Be as specific as you can.)

  6. My software:
    • I have not been able to install any software on this system yet

  7. My hardware
    • System brand & model, if it?s a pre-built system such as a Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. If it?s not, fill in as much of the information below as you can.
    • Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L Motherboard
    • C2D 5200 Processor (Retail)
    • Saphire HD4670 Video Card
    • 2x2 GB Gskill Memory (DDR2-800 CL5-5-15) voltage has never been changed as I cannot get into BIOS
    • Antec Sonata 500 case & PSU (Earthwatts PSU came installed in case)
    • Western Digital 6400AAKS 640 GB Hard Drive
    • SpeedPlus DVD Multirecorder

  8. Other information that might be relevant
Apologies if this has been covered, I checked a few of the stickied FAQ/Self help threads but couldn't seem to find an answer for this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First thing to do is to double check all connections. Unplug and replug in every cable and card. Often this kind of thing tunrs out to be a card of connector that just isn't seated right. If you still have problems then pull everything out of the case and set it up on a peice of cardboard. This rules out any possible shorts.

Thanks. Sorry I haven't responded, but I just got into a fender bender today and haven't had the chance to tear down and rebuild the system yet. I will soon.
