Check Videocard/video connections - if it's powering on but no beep error, may be successfully booting, you just can't see it.

That's about all I can think of atm.

check every single connection. make sure there is a speaker on the mobo. when you get home if you cant fix it please make a detailed list of the build and all the steps that you have taken to try to fix the problem.

alrighty. Speaker is attached. Its not my first build so i dont feel like its something too juvenile.

The videocard is secure and has power (proved by the fact that the fan turns on when I press the power on). Ram is in securely, all harddrives and dvd drives are plugged in SATA and have power. Everything seems to be in order which is why I'm so thrown off.

Regardless of how the SATA is arranged it should post or at least give me some sort of warning beeps. Maybe its a DOA motherboard? But given that everything turns on that doesnt seem like its actually the case.

Heres what in the machine:

2 x 1 TB hard drives
i7 860 - water cooled
1 x SATA dvd drive
800 watt psu
tv tuner
ATI 4870
2 x 2 gb kingston ram

Have you tried removing all drives?

Have you tried unplugging the power switch from the MB and just shorting the pins (momentarily) with a screwdriver?

Have you checked the CLEAR_CMOS jumper is in the correct position?

You need to start from the bottom up. With everything assembled, you're just using trial and error. Do a minimal install outside the box with just CPU, GPU and, one stick of ram. Make sure the one stick is in the correct slot for that configuration. Make sure all case connectors are properly oriented with respect to pin one. Look for the embossed triangle and do not rely on the cable labels.

Try and boot. If it boots add another stick of ram. If no joy, substitute ram stick. If still no joy, try another GPU or onboard if available. Add one component at a time.

Sometimes you have to go back to basics. Even if you've built many systems.

All drives removed, no change.

Not sure about this short thing. Tell me more?

Checking cmos now

If your power switch (on the PC case) is malfunctioning it could manifest itself as you are describing.

Disconnect the switch from the MB and when you want to start the PC, take a screwdriver and momentarily touch (short) the two pins on the MB. This will/should start the PC.

Fixed it. I accidentally used my old connector from my last Asus board. When I took that off it fixed everything. Thanks for all the suggestions
