I'm picking up a Kingston ssd for a new build today. The motherboard is a gigabyte 78LMT-USB3. I do not have a traditional spinning HD, can the ssd be used with a new windows 8 install?
Yes you can. There's no difference in the methodology when it comes to installing on a SSD. Just remember to set it to AHCI before doing a clean format. Depending on the speed of the SSD, it might be bottlenecked by the SATA II port. You'll still feel the responsiveness but you'll never achieve near its maximum rated speed(on benchmarks) without a SATA III port.
