So I decided after 6 years it was time for a new box to play some new games on. I did a first and decided to go AMD instead of my usual Intel, so I picked the Giga-Byte K8NSNXP-939 and a 3500+ (winchester) - with it I got a 6800GT from gigabyte, the 2GB TWINX2048-3200PRO set from Corsair, a pair of 74GB Raptors, 560 watt thermaltake psu, plextor writer, floppy, Tsunami case ... probably other parts I can't recall but are not important - oh yea, an upgraded cpu fan that will not fit the Giga-Byte MB because of the plastic backplate. I'll need to modify this later. While I was waiting for everything to show up I read some forums and realized I probably madea mistake getting Corsair ram with that board. Or maybe the mistake was the board in the first place.
Anyway - I get everything together and put only one stick in to be on the safe side for my install. It posts 262144k ... no mattter what slot I use. So I put both sticks in (single channel mode (1+3), same amount. Then I go dual channel in 1+2 and 3+4 but get only slow beeps and a black screen in POST indicating RAM issues. I knew this board had issues with Corsair, but it should at least count it right. So I RMA the memory and get 2 1GB matched sticks from Crucial. These were on the official list from Giga-Byte. Same exact story. I also can't get into setup always _ I was hoping to change boot order to flash my bios from F3 to F6 to see if that helped. It'll POST and get to the point where it'll list any drives (I have pulled them all) and just hand with a - in the upper left corner. When it first starts it lists the CPU correctly, but under it it shows cpuid:0FF0 (contained in less than and greater than symbols that will not post here - I forget how) ... never seen that one before.
So I figure it is the mainboard. I got an RMA number and ordered a new one next day. I am hoping it isn't something else, building a computer from parts ordered like this isa first, and it's a pain not having parts on hand to test this out better. I'd like to see a diferent PSU just in case.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for reading.
