hi guys im new on this forum

wall of text omg

1st post ftw.

first ill tell something about me. Im a graphic designer but as were i live in holland its hard to get work i work at asus as a helpdesk employee at the service/ repair center so its not like i dont know jack shit about computers. At work i can only view a few sites and this is one of those. lucky me now i can at least interact during the time i have zero calls haha.

Ok heres my current build.

mobo: p5k
cpu: e5400
cooler: artic cooling 7
vga: 3850 top
hdd: samsung wd seagate 2x sata 500 1x ide
dvd: asus
psu: ocz stealthxstream 500 or 550 w
mem: 4gb ocz 1333mhz platinum
case: recom backdraft

new build and make suggestions on this pls

mobo: p7p55d
cpu: i5 650
cooler: artic cooling big ass one
vga: his 4890 1gb cuz its only 155 euro here
hdd: dont need new ones gonna use old ones
dvd: dont need new one
psu: unsure if i need a new one
mem: 4gb ocz 1800mhz platinum cas7 only 110 euros here
case: nzxt lexa s

screen i am using is a 19inc crt. A good one but ill upgrade it next month to a 23.6 inch flat screen so i dont know what screen size ill use atm i use 1024 at 768 and ingame a bit bigger. Dont need mouse or keyboard. Merc and reaper edge ftw. Just need the parst above.

reason why i am upgradig is cuz my mobo is giving me mem failures. I tested it and i know what i am doing. But other than that my current build can still run any game on max settings looool except crysis but fuck that game.

But the questions i got are can i run the new build on my 2 year old ocz 500 or 550 w psu. Unsure if its 500 or 550. And can u guys make suggestion on what i should buy. Cheap is better haha

pls use these websites. Or any other website from holland or that ships cheap to holland.

www.alternate.nl
www.azerty.nl
www.salland.eu

brands i prefer
mobo- asus i prefer the p55 chipset and asus as i know its pwnage but make suggestions and give reasons for why
cpu - rather have intel but make suggestions
psu - prefer my old ocz but otherwise any good one
mem - ocz g-skill geill
cooler - the one i want is 29 bucks and looks awsume so dont bother.
vga - dont care what brand as long as its a good vga and is cheap

im a cheap skate so id rather want the build to be as cheap as possible for the best preformance. So dont come with 5770 vgas as i can buy a 4890 for less or in the same price range. this build can cost me 600 euros without the case and without a psu. The parts i already choosed with the case would cost me 670 euros. So if u guys can do it cheaper then pls try.

im a gamer and graghic designer but just use photoshop illustrator flash etc. Games well mostly online like rf online cod mw 1/2 but i always check the latest games.

ok another question should i go with a 4890 1gb for 160 euros or a asus 5770 1bg for 125 euros.

or if i find a way to pay for it a 5830 1gb asus for 200 euros?

how much difference is there between these two cards?

5770.

Also just toss in a Q9400 and keep everything else.

5770= 4890 ALMOST..and its new tech low power consumption.

uhm a 4870 is sligtly better then a 5770 so dont say a 4890 is the same as a 5770 and like i said i am going to upgrade cuz my mobos memory slots have issues.

but thanx for the suggestion

Kick the i5 650 to the curb and get the i5 750. Why pay that much for a dual core CPU when you're likely not even going to use it's primary feature (integrated graphics)? If you want 4890 level performance, that will not satisfy you. The i5 750 is just a better chip. ASUS or Gigabyte make some baller motherboards. GB has passed ASUS for me this generation (X58, P55). Price vs. Performance is simply better. ASUS is no longer the leader in my eyes, that's just its rep from the 775 days.

Also, drop that RAM. OCZ RAM is terrible; gives me huge problems in a variety of systems. In the DDR2 days, they were solid, but not so much now. Their current offerings are very very very very very picky about timings, motherboard, GSkill or ADATA imo. Pay the $20 premium. You will not regret it. Cheapness will do you dirty on RAM.

4890 is a fine card. Mine runs everything I throw at it at 1920 resolution. I do not play games like Crysis, because frankly, no one plays that fucking game, it's just an epeen bench. 4890 runs BFBC2 nicely, and that's the most taxing game I play. The 5850 beats the 4890, but it's more money. Up to you. At this stage in the game, I'd buy the 5850.

like i said im a cheap skate. i dont need an op system i just want to get the top knotch stuff i can get for my monney.

i have 600 to spend on a cpu mobo vga memory and cooler.

so i dont wanna reach over that as with the case and fans i wanna hit 700 euros max.
still wondering if i should go with 5770 or 4890 but pls make some suggestions i could use.

like i said just throw some parts at me with the prices from dutch sites so i can consider other options.

omg making posts with my sony e xperia phone sucks lol

No time to look at dutch sites, but for $20 US more (so prob 10 euros), I'd buy the i5 750. I'll leave that decision to you, but rest assured, you're wasting your money with the i5 650. 2 cores vs. 4 cores, better OCing on the 750. The benches speak for themselves: http://anandtech.com/bench/Product/109?vs=144

For top notch price vs. performance stuff, I'd go the AMD route. Are you aware you can potentially unlock a $95 US processor, the AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE to essentially a 955 BE? I have one of those chips and, at least for what I do (gaming, surfing, unzipping moderate size files, word processing), it can match my i7 920 in everything except BFBC2. You take a chance with that route, but it works. I've also unlocked a $65 Athlon II to a Phenom X4.

If you really want to keep it cheap, get the i3 530 and overclock it. Not sure if your current cooler has an 1156 bracket, but that can be had. I saw a very nice deal on the i3 530 and a gigabyte mATX board - think it ran $170 US.

5770 vs. 4890 - the only reason to choose the 5770 is DX11 performance. 4890 is currently a better benchmarking card: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5770,2446-7.html

ty for the input. And the reason why i wont go 750 is cuz its 30 bucks more here and has only 2.6 ghz. I wont oc my cpus as well last time i tried to oc my old 8400 it went boom together with my old mobo.

But yer i thought about amd but i do like to get intel as i dont know much about amd and i dont know any good boards. I know that the p55 is one of the best chip sets atm same goes for x58 and thats why i want to go intel. And mobo processor combos arent available over here. At least not any decent ones. Thats why i am scratching pieces together.

But i gues ill go for the i5 750 and the 4890 and p7p55d. Unless people can confince me to go msi or gb or xfx or something. But as i work at asus i know what those mobos are capable of and even a rooky as me can oc with the asus software without having to look things up. And i like the looks of the boards and what it comes with. I might go and check gb boards out but the p7p55d is one of the better asus boards for quite a low price 109 euro here and the gb and msi p55 boards for that price are all matx with only 1 pcie slot or without anything nice on it. Might be wrong though.

And reason why i went ocz is not for the price as gskil and geil are cheaper here then ocz but for the life time warranty and i have never had any problems with those. But ill look for some gskill or geill mem banks as i still have 5 days before i buy anything.

but ty all for ur input i hope to have more answers or suggestions.

The i5 750 is the way to go. You've got to remember that the i5 6xx's are only dual-cores whereas the 750 is a quad-core.

Not really, it's got an aggressive turbo mode - very interesting feature. The CPU essentially overclocks itself where necessary, with burst speeds up to 3.3 ghz, iirc. Check it: http://anandtech.com/show/2832
