New build problems

Last night I put this together

ASUS P7P55D-E Pro
Intel X25-M Mainstream SSD 80gb
Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield
XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB
Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 Model 996782
Windows 7 64bit

The problem that I'm having is that everything will be running fine and then all of a sudden it will just lock up. It can be 5 minutes after I start it or an hour and I can be doing anything. When it locks up I don't get a bsod or anything. The image on the screen just freezes and nothing will move.
I've loaded the latest updates for the mobo, video card, and SSD.

I did take on of the ram sticks out and it seems to lock up less but this may be in my head.

How do I start diagnosing this problem? Any ideas?

Have you run memtest86 to ensure the RAM is ok?

If not, that's where I would start. Download and burn the cd bootable application. Change the boot sequence in your Bios so that you boot from dvd/cd first. Stick the the memtest cd in and restart. Let memtest do its thing.

If you get errors, take one of the RAM sticks out and try again. Run memtest on each stick independently. That should tell you if you have a bad stick of RAM (or both).

If the RAM is ok, I'd move on to the vc. Do you have another vc you can swap in instead of the XFX? Obviously, with a different vc in the system, if you don't have problems then you've isolated the problems to the vc.

I had a similar problem to you last week in that my screen would just lock up. I determined that it was because I had overclocked my vc too high.

Best of luck!
