Recently I sold my last PC build and have recieved all the parts for my new comp

specs:

CPU: intel 980x
Mobo: EVGA x58 e760 3-way sli classified
PSU: seventeam 750w
GPU: MSI Nvidia 480 gtx
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR-GT 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 6-6-6-20

so here is what I have done so far.

When I first hooked up the comp to the monitor and started it I noticed all the fans were spinning, lights were on for the ram, and the cpu temp is showing 68C for some reason. The monitor does not detect the GPU - so I tried HDMI, that failed too. After this I suspected a DOA video card so I had a friend put it in his computer and it worked. The power supply was at one point used in a previous build so I know it works. I tried my old ATi 4850x2 ...it did the same as the 480x fans spun but the monitor did not recieve a signal. So at this point I am pretty sure it has to do with my Mobo. Since my motherboard was made before the 980x came out I think that could be the issue and it is stopping the post before it gets to the video card. Can anyone verify this?

BTW while testing my new parts I noticed that when I run 1 stick of my RAM in any of the DIMMs the computer will start - stop - start - stop ect. but when all 3 are in it just turns on and sits there.

Im confused. How do you know what the CPU temp is with no video?

Personally it sounds to me like your MB is installed incorrectly (not grounded) and its shorting out. Did you install rubber washers and/or the brass case standoffs for the MB?

This mobo has a built in LCD to show CPU temp on it...even a reset cmos button and power on/off....it turns out that 68 i've been seeing is a boot error. I feel really stupid because all I had to do was google the right words (the words being EVGA x58 and 980x). I eventually found out that my motherboard will not even boot without the next BIOS version. So I contacted EVGA support to send me a new chip (or I could buy another socket 1366... no thx).

So are you saying you require a BIOS update on the board for the 980x to work? Does your friend have an older chip to borrow just so you can start yours up and flash the BIOS?

Yes I require the next bios version for my computer to even boot lol. The sad thing is both my old computer and my friends are running AMD. My last response from EVGA was that they are sending me a new chip. So 1 more week before I can use my computer >_<

You could always buy an older cpu from newegg, use it to flash the BIOS and then return it and just pay the restocking fee if you don't want to wait.
