Here's a new build I'm considering. I already have the 8800gts and X-Fi card.

Q6600 $266
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DQ6 LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard $228.99
CORSAIR Dominator 4GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) $386.00
CORSAIR CMXAF1 Fans - Retail $19.99
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI ATX12V 700W $139.99
Antec Performance One P180B Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel for durability through the majority of chassis 1.0mm cold rolled steel around the 4 x HDD area ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $129.99
LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe $30.00

I'm looking for areas I might have some overkill in, such as the PSU or RAM or even the Q6600. I will *never* use SLI, it's not for me.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how I can cut the price but keep performance?

Make absolutely sure you check the creative forums and search for 'squeal of death'. You may want to get a different one after you read them. Just passing along something I learned the hard way.....

Save $100 by going GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R instead of DQ6, unless you plan to push your Q6600 to 4.0Ghz or something, if your goal is around 3.2-3-4Ghz, DS3R will be just fine.
Get Corsair 620HX instead of the OCZ. No savings here, just a better PSU for the money. Save another $100 by getting two of these kits:

Also, what video card do you have or planning to buy and are you planning to overclock?
