I am not sure if overheating is what caused the power supply to die.
The first power supply (A-Power 500-Watt 20+4 pin ATX Dual Fan Power Supply) we had in it fried I guess. We had a burning plastic smell that wasn't overwhelming but noticeable and then the ps stopped working. What would make the power supply do what it did.
We installed a new ps that actually came with the case (450-Watt) and everything looked normal but it seems the the pc starts to get hot 10 minutes after playing a game. We had the sides off the case and a house fan blowing onto it. It would be great if someone could tell us what the best cooling would be for this build.
Would having the front panel ports plugged in wrong cause overheating? The ports are working o.k. so I think we have them set up fine.
The specs are -
2 GB DDR2 PC2 5300 Kingston
2 GB DDR2 PC2-4200 240-Pin DIMM Major/3rd
Case - 10-Bay Matrix ATX Window Case w/450-Watt PS
mobo - Intel D925XCV Intel 925X Socket 775 ATX MB w/LAN & HD Audio
Intel Pentium 4 550 3.40GHz 800MHz 1MB Socket 775 CPU
Spire Socket 775 Heat Sink & Fan up to 3.8GHz
200 GB Maxtor Basics ATA/100 Internal Hard Drive
BFG - GeForce 8800 GTS OC Graphics Card
We do have 2 other interior fans, an intake and an outtake.
Thanks.
