New build, no POST, no video.

The system stats are as follows:

A8N5X Mother board
AMD 3800 X2 Processor
CMX512-3200XLPT Ram
AIW X800XL PCIE 256 MB Video

Using only these four components, with the 400 Watt Antec SP-400 compliant PSU outside of the case, I get the same results. I'm no expert at this PC building business, but this build should make a teen number as to the number of times I've completed a build.

The RAM is listed as compliant according to Corsair's website, I have two sticks and have tried swapping them out using DIMM_B1 for only one stick, as per the MOBO manual directions.

I don't have a spare video card to try since this is my first PCIE build. I don't have a spare MOBO, nor do I have a spare PSU with 2.0 compliance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, that's what I meant by no POST. I had everthing in the case to start with, assuming the speaker works, no beeps.

Wow, what a silly step to miss. I did as Greg suggested, cleared the CMOS, and now I at least get video...Back in the case she goes, more to follow...

Update:

Now I'm getting: "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded"

I can only get this message upon reseting the CMOS, if I con't reset the CMOS I'm stuck with no POST beep(s), and no video. I've tried replacing the CR2032 battery, and updating to the newest BIOS from ASUS's website.

Anything else I may have missed, or am I still possibly looking at a hardware problem?

I would next try another CMOS battery from another shop.
Then, if it is still the same prob, it is prob a mobo problem.

I tried another CMOS battery while in the process of clearing it, still same issues. I just RMA'd the MBoard. The worst part is this is my first dealings with ASUS, and I've always heard they are a top notch board. Hopefully the replacement will be trouble free. Updates to follow...

Thanks for all the help thus far.

It's a new build with no OS. During the POST, I recieve the message: "CMOS Checksum error - loading defaults" "Press F1 to continue, or DEL to enter setup". No matter what I do from this point, it won't have video again(upon boot)/show me this error (pretty much doesn't do anything) until I Clear the CMOS--this of course takes me back to the original problem, CMOS Checksum error...

And all of this testing is being done with only the basics (MBoard, Ram, Processor, Video card) attached outside of the case.

The CMOS checksum error is normal everytime you clear the CMOS. That should happen.

Sounds to me like you should be checking the video card or power supply. I can't make a bet of which it is. I would start with a better PSU though, although to me this sounds like maybe the video card isnt' getting enough power or something

I finally dove into this a little further after over a month of letting all this money just sit there, wasting away.

As it turns out, the 3800+ X2 is not compatible with the A8N5X. The board is listed as X2 compatible on the retail box, but apparently (and according to their site) only certain X2's.

I thought I'd just post my solution here. Anyone want to buy board? ...oops.

Grr, new "compatible" board same results with a twist, now I can't get video. I know the card works, I tried it in the other board again. Are we still thinking it could be the PSU? That's one of the few things I have yet to try, as well as a new Processor... Ideas?

Got it fixed. I was too frustrated when I first tried it to realize I was using the wrong spare monitor cable. New board still needed a BIOS update, but all is well now.
