New Build, New Problem...

I don't know what the deal is, but I just build a Sempron 2400+ system with a Soltek nforce 2 mobo.

Yesterday, I had a problem with memory/processor timings, but that was my own ignorance. I had everything working perfectly in XP Pro SP2, so I unplugged everything to move the computer. Now, when I try to boot the computer, oftentimes all the text will be all garbled and it won't get by the initial BIOS text with the message "Keyboard error or no keyboard present". Naturally, I figured the garbled text was the result of a poorly seated graphics card, and eventually, the text became legible. But, as far as the keyboard goes, I have tried a few different keyboards in both USB and PS/2 with no luck.

I have no idea what the problem is because the computer was working perfect earlier today. Nothing has changed since then, yet now it doesn't want to work.

Help would be much appreciated.

The round mouse and keyboard ports on the mobo are function-specific, purple for keyboard and green for mouse. Do you have them crossed up, by any chance?

No pins are bent and everything was plugged in right. Its an interesting problem, because it seems that if the computer is not started (or attempted to be) for awhile, then the garbled text problem returns, and the keyboard problem remains. The only thing I can think of is a bad mobo, but it wouldn't make any sense that it was working fine earlier. Nothing has happened since then that could possibly damage it.

I'm perplexed at this point and can't think of anything else.

One other thing to check: look at the 115-volt / 230-volt slider on the rear of the PSU and make sure it's at the correct setting for your country. If you chanced to put your hand on the rear of the PSU when you moved the computer, it's possible that you might've nudged that slider over to the other position. Had it happen once down at work, and in my case the computer would spin stuff but not POST.

What PSU do you have again, I forgot.

It is a 350 watt antec that came with the case. Model number SL350. I'm in the USA, so should it be at 115 or 230? Right now its at 115.

EDIT: I'm not sure why, but it booted. All I did was flip the voltage slider back and forth to make sure it was on 115. Then I plugged in the keyboard to a USB and it worked. I'm thinking that the mobo was being picky about which USB port the keyboard was in, since it was looking for the keyboard in the last used port. I'm guessing I picked a different USB when I plugged everything back in, but I don't see why the mobo would have issue with this.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
