Already stopped by the local mc and bought all the parts. Curious if I did okay. Somewhat of buyers remorse so just need opinions on whether this build is worthy of cash spent.
6600k $209, z170 asrock extreme4 $109 ($20 rebate), crucial 16gb ddr4 $45, corsair cx650m $69 power supply($20 rebate), crucial mx 500gb ssd $107. Total otd was $582. I have $40 in rebates so price after rebates is $542.
This is strictly a gaming pc. Will add a 1070 or a cheap used 290 390 390x possibly later.
Did I do okay on this? Any feedback is appreciated. Everything is still in the box unopened at this point.

The only concern I have is the PSU. The CXM series is considered a Tier 4 PSU, and the 750W unit got a 7.1 rating from jonnyguru.

A better choice would be the EVGA 600B (currently $56 shipped from Newegg) which is considered a Tier 3 PSU and the 500B get's an 8.4 rating from jonnyguru.

Neither are great units, but if cost is a concern then the 600B is a better choice. Make sure you get MC to price match Newegg unless you would rather take your chances with the rebate.

Agreed, only real "issue" is the cheap PSU, everything else is fine (for gaming anyway).

Hmm... Review is a mixed bag. Thanks for pointing that out. What are your thoughts on the motherboard?

Also I have an old antec 850w power supply. It has the yellow racing stripes on it. Probably 7 or 8 years old. Hasn't seen massive usage. Also an ocz 700w modxstream probably 5 years old. Hasn't seen massive usage either. Would I be better off with either of those compared to the corsair. Bought the corsair on name alone thinking it would be quality.
What kind of power would I be using with a 6600k oc to 4.5 and a 390x or 1070? Thinking if it's only using around 500w the corsair would probably be okay.

It depends on the model number on your old power supplies. There have been some big requirement changes over the last 8 years. A lot of older power supplies weren't Haswell ready, let alone Skylake.

A 390x uses some juice. I would personally pick up a good quality 650w unit if that is the route you're going.

Motherboard is fine. I have a ASRock Z77 Extreme6 and overclock my 3570K, and it has been extremely stable.

Also I have an old antec 850w power supply. It has the yellow racing stripes on it. Probably 7 or 8 years old.

As UsandThem mentioned, depends on whether it has the requirements of the newer CPUs. If it does then it should be fine.

Also an ocz 700w modxstream probably 5 years old.

That's a negative.

That stood out to me. Seems like a good deal price-wise. Of course, if you're going with a "K" CPU, and a Z170 mobo, then you WANT fast DDR4... at least, faster than 2133. Something like 2666 is a sweet spot, or 3000. 2400 is fine too, you can usually overclock 2400 RAM a bit. (I'm running mine at 2500.)

It seems like you dont need much power, especially if you plan on going 1070. Why not just get a Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D 380W. It is the highest rated power supply on newegg and I've bought 6 of em and havent had a problem with any of them.
