Okay, I am building a new computer and have been behind the curve for the past year. The last computer I built and currently have is a p4 2.4 Ghz, Gigabyte 8IEXP, 512 MBs of RAM, Geforce 4 ti 4200, etc, etc.

That computer is going to my parents whose computer is shot and my old one from college (9 years old), and I am speccing out a new one for myself. I am budgeted to about 800-900, and I think I have a basic build set out, but am open to any suggestions. Here is what I currently have:

AMD Athlon 64 2800+ Retail 185
MSI K8N New Platinum 131
512 MB Crucial PC 3200 96
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB 194
Western Digital 80 GB 67
Nu tech 8X DVD burner 68

That puts me at about 740 or so. I also need a case, and I am figuring a 350 Watt PS. Any suggestions on case? WOuld like to keep it around 75-80 bucks. I currently have an Antec full tower and it was fine to work with, but am open to other brands.

The floppy and CD-ROM will be pulled from spare parts.

Also, I have only built intel and used nvidia cards. Any potential hazards with the parts listed above? I know years ago there were heat issues with AMDs, and there were compatability issues, but I am assuming most of that has been resolved? Should I go for the AMD 64, or should I just get a p4 2.8. I am going to be doing heavy photoshop work, gaming, and general business apps. Gaming is FPS and MMOGs.

Have fallen behind the computer learning curve lately and just making sure I get up to speed before I go and build.

You might look at Antec's new budget case with their SL350 power supply, which is called the SLK1650. If you might want more drives in the future and don't mind a non-beige color, the SLK3700AMB isn't a lot more money and has room for more hard drives, plus you can stick a 120mm fan on the HDD rack. Zillions of photos of an SLK3700AMB here :)

Yeah I was looking at the SLK1650 as one of the choices. Any idea on if the components I have listed above have any known compatability issues? Is the MB good? I've only used Gigabyte and Asus and have had no problems with either of them. Just a nervous process because I am jumping off of INtel and venturign into something I am less familiar with.
