Hey Everyone,

I keep receiving the same beeping sounds whenever I turn on my new system. The beeping consists of one long and then one short beep. The Gigabyte manual says it's either a motherboard or a memory error. I've already tried reseating and taking out the ram sticks to no avail. Also, my computer won't get past the very early stages of the Windows 7 setup (right after it gets to the blue setup screen). Setup will just stop responding and my CD-ROM will stop reading the disk. My guess is that the beeping and the failed installs are related. Any ideas? Thanks.

Can I do this through the BIOS? I don't have another system to test the RAM. It does seem to detect it in the BIOS, at least.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

I just ran a couple passes of windows memory diagnostic, and it found no errors.

I'm able to get to the screen in Windows setup where it asks which hard drive to install windows on (It takes like 5 times as long to get here compared to my laptop, though, and it makes the same beeping sound throughout the screen with the windows logo). However, it doesn't seem to recognize my new WD 1tb Black--even after loading the driver from the Gigabyte CD. It's also not in the BIOS. Thoughts?

I think you answered your own question here. If it isn't showing up in the BIOS it would cause all your problems. Hard Drive is defective or it has a bad cable or connection to the motherboard, or the drive controller. Your BIOS doesn't need drivers to see the drive.

The beep code continues and the manual says it's memory or the motherboard. I vote a bad motherboard.

Try clearing the CMOS before condemning the board. It's quick and easy to do. It's the first thing Gigabyte tech support would have you do. Follow the directions in the manual to ensure you've done it correctly.

You might also want to make sure your processor is compatible with the BIOS version you're running.

When I suspect a bad motherboard, I deal with the manufacturer. I know it's the sellers obligation to make it right, but by working through tech support, I ensure that there are no issues I may have overlooked. It's disappointing to RMA a board back to the seller and find that the replacement acts the same.

Stock answer: Disconnect power. Reseat CPU and power cables, remove everything else. Check jumpers. Connect only power button. Remove 3V battery and short-circuit the contacts. Press power button. Replace battery. Add one stick of working memory into 1st slot (closest to the CPU). Install graphics/use integrated (if any). Try to boot.

Then once booting use only optical to memtest all of your memory and check hdd. Report errors if any.
