Symptoms
rare but Random BSOD
then after installing win7 and adding programs/drivers start getting consistent and persistent explorer crashes when clicking windows key or trying to open windows explorer. additionally certain programs (e.g. micro torrent) fail to load.

I'm thinking
A. since one of the 4 modules in my memory kit is bad perhaps one or all the others may have also been damaged during shipping.
B. Power supply could be overloaded..(i.e. random power fluctuations destabilizing voltage)..unlikely
C. Crucial drive may not have been well refurbished, read about a few instances of people receiving bad drives.

any thoughts?

I wore an antistatic wristband when putting together system, took precautions.

I seriously doubt your PSU is being overloaded.

The first thing I'd try is run memtest86+. I would test one DIMM at a time. I'm not sure you can tell which DIMM is faulty if you had them all tested simultaneously.
