I just recently put together a new pc, specs are:

winny 3500+
dfi lanparty ultra d nforce 4
1 gig corsair xms ram
evga 6800gt pci-e
36 gig raptor
160 gig WD sata drive
windows xp pro

windows installed fine, drivers, updates, most programs all installed and run perfectly. the only problem ive noticed is that i get frequent IE hangups and lockups... it happens at least once every 30 mins or so... no real pattern to it. i have noticed it does happen sometimes when i alt-tab out of WoW, the page i was on in IE is frozen and isnt responding. its not spyware, ive ran adaware and spybot and i havnt gone to any websites except for this one and the wowforums since i built the pc a few days ago. so im wondering what can i do about this? is it a hardware issue or some other problem i havnt heard about?

any feedback would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

What do you have for:

Service pack on Windows (SP0, SP1, SP2)?

Antivirus software?

Firewall software?

Do you have a router or not

If you have a router, do any other computers share it.

Edit: for good measure, what exact version of Corsair XMS (C2, LL, XL, Pro or CrazyLED) and what voltage are you running the memory at?

hmm sure sounds like somebody calling home.

another good freeware adware detector....Bazooka http://www.kephyr.com/
Try startup inspector for windows another freebie. http://www.windowsstartup.com/
And Hijack this log may help you notice something that you didn't know was running in background. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3155

don't have to really go anywhere on the net or download anything anymore to get a bug they find you....have seen several peeps highly recomending kapersky av as well

Im using SP2, norton 2003 fully updated, nothing but the windows firewall... im on a wireless network using the linksys wireless g router using WPA encryption i believe... and i have 2 other pc's using the network... and as far as the memory i believe its pro and honestly i havnt messed with the voltages for the memory so i dont know... cant check until i get off of work later tonight either...

and daniel yeah i guess i never thought of it like that... heh but when i get home ill run so of those programs and report back in this thread...

Norton Antique Edition, huh? ;) How about get some modern stuff there. McAfee VirusScan 9.0, Norton 2005, Kaspersky 5.0 or another current-generation model.

If you're running the memory on AUTO voltage then you should probably raise it. Try 2.8 volts.

heh yeah, i havnt gotten around to getting a newer version of norton... ill get on that tonight as well...

ill change the voltages too...

any ideas on what could be causing it? or does it just seem like a bunch of different things that are making IE lockup... its surprising because everything else is running perfectly fine, of course i always have at least 1 problem with a new build... it never fails... heh
