New build, got a few quick questions

Hey guys, finalizing my build and would appreciate it if anyone has any reccomendations/changes. It's going to be used mostly for gaming/video editing and I'm hoping it'll last me a couple of years. I'll also be overclocking this system. I already have 22" monitor and OS.

Case: Antec P182 - $169.99

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - $199.99

Memory: OCZ / 2GB DDR2 PC2-8500 / 1066MHz / NVIDIA® SLI?-Ready Edition / Dual Channel OCZ2N1066SR2GK - $139.99AR

Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3 Rev. 3.3 - $118.33
I've read mixed reports about long term stability of this board. Is there a better more stable choice for a small price premium?

Heatsink: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme(w/ Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120mm fan) - $75 (already purchased)
NB HS: Thermalright HR-05

Videocard: EVGA 8800GTS 640MB - $389.99

PSU: Corsair 520HX - $99.99

Optical Drive: SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write, LightScribe Technology Black SATA Model SH-S183L - $38.99

Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s - $80

Total: ~$1300
Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Case:  I have the older P160 myself.

CPU:  Everyone has it for a reason.

Memory: If you really want DDR2-1066 memory for a DDR2-800 chipset, go ahead. If you can get cheaper DDR2-800 memory, I would do that.

Motherboard: I have an Asus P5W-DH (i975X chipset), but I've heard lots of good things about that board's not-so-little brother: the Asus P5B (P965 chipset).
Newegg: Asus P5B Deluxe

Heatsink: You only need a northbridge cooler if your northbridge is holding back your overclock. For my passively-cooled P5W, that hasn't been the case.

Video Card: You want to spend $110 now on a 7600GT, and then spend $250 in a few months on a DX10 card? Just spend $350 now, or you'll forever be waiting. I would wait for the HD2900XT to hit the retail channel and push the 8800GTS prices down a bit.

PSU:

Optical Drive:

Hard Drive:  I have a pair of those, and they're running great.

Alright thanks I'll hold off as long as I can but if I can't wait for the HD2900XT than I'll just go for the 8800GTS.

Yikes I didnt' even think about that. Sadly this is the only part I have actually ordered because I acted on instinct and thought it was a great deal getting D9's for 140 bucks =p. I automatically just assumed that this ram would be better/faster but I guess it's just wasted money on ram =/.

So is this board much more stable? I'm trying to justify if spending $65 more on this motherboard is worth it.

suggestions:

Don't lavish so much $ on a case.
Cases are commodity items. Try to find a case from some electronics throw-away day in your town for free & re-paint/re-use that. Put any savings where it'll count, like toward the better video card.

Rest of your selections look OK, except don't waste extra $ on a Seagate Barracuda hdd if you can find a lower price on a Western Digital Caviar hdd instead.

Also, I don't know anything about that PSU. As you know, PSU's are manufactured by a host of companies that sell to "Brand Name" resellers which turn around & resell them to the public under their well-known names. But they don't add anything to the product.

In all liklihood, Corsair, the RAM company, with it's long-established brand name, is merely reselling PSU's that are manufactured by some other company. So you're just paying $20 - $50 extra for the brand name sticker.

Better: Just save & buy yourself a top quality PSU from a reputable OEM brand name like FSP Group (Fortron Source) or similar. Don't economize on a no-name PSU, get a good long-warranty brand.

Why waste $ for a label? Put savings toward better video card.

And that would be Seasonic, one of the very best manufacturers of quality switching power supplies in the world.

Don't agree. Some of us care about looks too, and it can make a difference in how loud/cool your computer will be. Quality cases go a long way too.

About the harddrives. Both Western Digital and Seagate deliver quality HDDs. It doesn't really matter in price or quality. But Seagate has some extra features at the moment (perpendicular recording) to make the Seagate more worth it.

Yea I realize the heavy price premium on the P182 compared to some cases, but the main reason I was planning on getting the P182 was the layout and the extra fans since I want the best airflow for overclocking my system. I see that alot of people recommend the Centurion 5 for a cheaper alternative or for a little more money the Lian Li PC-7B plus II. Would I benefit with the airflow in the P182 when overclocking or do these other two cases already have plenty of airflow that it wouldn't make a difference? Thanks!

i suggest you get the 8800gts because its DX10 and powerful; you want the power because u have a 22"
the 7600gt will become inadequate very soon

edit: the 320mb card might also be a better choice because your not going to run games at 1900x1200

There was a deal at Fry's about a week ago. Retail version for $199. They don't even have the link up on their website anymore and it died pretty quick.

Alright thanks. I've read mixed reports but I think I might just go for a 640MB version to kinda future proof my system.

Okay, I think I'm pretty much set, I've edited my title with the recomendations from everyone. If anyone has any last recommendations/opinions I'd appreciate it. THanks!

Indeed. Same as OCZ though I can't remember whose OEMs they are selling off the top of my head. Corsair's PSUs are quality stuff.
