Hi there,

Attempting a new build after years on a 3400+, 6800Gt system. Already have the GTX 260 Core 216 in hand, along with a 640GB HD and Case. Budget was 700...working toward that at a decent pace.

If I am going down the path of a X3 720, do you guys think the BioStar TForce TA790GX is a decent match? Seems to have mixed reviews, but the massive combo deal (45 dollars off X3+BioStar board) is really hard to pass up. Deal is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?ItemList=Combo.165025

Any other board that are sub-100 that I should be looking at? ATX form, DDR 1066, easy compatibility with AM3 is really all i need.

For the RAM, I think I will likely go with the G-Skill 4gb DDR 1066 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/...?Item=N82E16820231166). The cheaper models (OCZ fatalty, etC) seem to have major problems running at 1066.

One thing i never skimp on is the motherboard. Its the single most important thing as far as stability goes.
Maybe look at the gigabyte board for $30 more.

If you consider the 720 PII as $145, its still only $97

only go for the fx board if u dont want a integrated graphics chip or u will have sli or crossfire in the future
it takes advantage of the two x16 lanes

and only go for the 1066 ram if u have plans on going over 400 fsb
the bandwidth difference between 1066 to 800 is 1200mB/s
i see that as no advantage in games(believe me i have migrated from 667 to 800 and saw no difference)

and i thought the 1066 rams are called of from the market because of there clashes with the ddr3 with the same speed(atleast thats what the senario is here in india)
and u dint mention the use for this pc and whether overclocking or not

foxconn doesn't have integrated video but is a fx (so better chipset and x16-x16 cf mode)
biostar is gx, so x16-x8 cf mode and doesn't have heatsinks for mosfets as one reviewer pointed out, which can be bad if you are overclocking.
maybe try looking at the non-combo asrock boards. last i checked those were ~$100 had all the features including support for cf and sli and good reviews.
asrock a780gxe
Edit: The a780gxe has sb700 so no ACC, which is what you need for a chance to unlock the x3 to a x4. So maybe go for one of the others. I'd recommend the foxconn since it's a better board and has cooling for the mosfets.
