New build for Diablo 3

1. This PC will be for playing Diablo 3, torchlight 2, Skyrim and possibly some BF3 (I have not played it much lately - mainly because my 80 gig SSD ran out of room) Aside from gaming I use this PC for bit torrent and listening to music.

2. I don't really have a budget other than a hard cap of about $2,500.

3. I am buying from the USA.

4. My brand preference is for gigabyte (motherboards), MSI/EVGA (video cards), corsair (power supply / case), Seagate for HDD, no preference for memory or other components

5. I intend to sell my i5 750 / AMD 5870 setup to my step dad for about $300 so I will be salvaging nothing

7. I plan to overclock the CPU heavily, the GPU some

8. 1920x1200

9. This week or next week I will purchase this

X. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software? - no

It has been 2 years since I built my i5 750 / AMD 5870 system and it is time to retire it. My 80 gig intel SSD can't hold any more and my GPU is too slow for some games now and I use Truecrypt for all drives now so I can't stand using a CPU that does not have AES encryption built in.

I wish to mainly use this setup for movies/music/tvshows and Diablo 3 primarily. I just retired for World of Warcraft after playing since launch. I picked out 16 GB of very fast RAM to use fancy cache to improve load times for gaming.

I am so torn in picking my components. On one hand I could use parts that are not my first choice and probably come withing 5 or 10 percent of my first choice components and save a TON of money, but on the other hand I could get what I actually want to have and spend a lot more for really no benenfit in performance. How do you all deal with these decisions?

This is what I need to buy:

Nothing, my current PC could probably run two instances of D3 and run all my other stuff at the same time.

Bottom Line: I am debating on spending an extra grand because... well I don't even know, I just like all those parts better. Any suggestions?

LOL, so true.

It's pretty easy. Realize that spending a lot of extra money for no benefit.... doesn't get you any benefit. Would you pay $1 for a stamp when a $0.45 does the same thing? No? Then why would you pay $1000 extra for computer parts that do the same thing?

Anyway, your first build looks pretty reasonable to me. You could save some money on the PSU by going with the PCP&C Silencer Mk III 600W (very similar to a Seasonic M12II), but everything else looks fine.
