Just sitting here with a browser open the PC is nice and quiet, but every 5-30 seconds the fans ramp up for 1-5 seconds, loud, then quiet back down...

I'm not new to this but this is a weird problem, I have afterburner open and it shows the GPU fan at a steady 25%, so I think it's the Corsair H100i V2 cooler..

I installed the Corsair LINK software, and it shows 0RPM for the fans, which isn't true because they're running all the time...

One youtube video said that I need to disable smart fan control, but I can't find anything like that in my MSI bios (MSI Z170i LGA1151 Mobo)..

What should I be looking for?

Thanks!

-edit-

All it seems it took was a reboot and now it hasn't happened again.. hopefully that fixed the high fan speed...

However it still shows 0RPM in the LINK program, still can't figure out how to fix that

Woke up this morning and it was ramping up and down constantly, so I opened it up to check out and see if it's plugged into the pump, etc...

The H100i V2 system is hardwired to the pump, there's no option there, and then the header plugs into a fan header on the mobo.

As soon as I opened it up I realized 1 of the 2 fans wasn't plugged into the cord, I guess it pulled out when I was mounting the radiator last time... so I re-routed the fan cables along the case with more movement, put it together, and now LINK displays the RPM! DUH, that's an easy solution, LOL!

So far no speed variation, lets hope it stays that way!

The reason the Link software shows 0rpm for the fans is likely because you plugged them into the motherboard cpu fan headers instead of to the splitter thing that they provide w/ the H100i v2 (I think it splits out from the water block/pump assembly??) You also need to make sure you connected the internal USB cable so the pump reports stats.

I chose to plug mine into the motherboard (like your setup, apparently) because I prefer it that way. I don't use Corsair's link software to monitor fans or to set profiles, I do it all through my motherboard's software and fan curve settings. This way, it's a one stop shop for all fan controls and also gives me way more control than Corsair's software.
