new build; doesn't always restart

this is the i5 2400 on an ASUS p8 p67 pro motherboard ... revision b3. Windows 7 home installed great, until the update was performed. Now the computer will not do a cold boot. Upon a restart with this CD in the drive of course it brings up the menu option to boot from the cd disk if I ignore that, I can get right into Windows just fine. If I remove the CD and restart or do a cold boot, all I get is a blinking cursor. Put the CD in the drive, and the problem goes away as I just mentioned.

I reinstalled Windows a second time, and am having the same result.

Suggestions appreciated

Seems the install hasnt activated the correct boot partition....I have seen this before...you might try using BCD editor to check boot loader...
