Hi guys,

I just built a new PC based on the Gigabyte 965P DS3 mobo and a Sonata II case. I bought a Celeron D (3.2 Ghz) processor to hold me over until I can get a Core 2 Duo.

Everything seems to have gone very well. It fired up (literally!) on the first try and and got Win XP installed. Nothing smoked. Two questions:

1) The Celeron processor is running at about 70 C according to the bios. I think that seems high, but that is lower than the 74 C that I got on my first time in the bios. I think that I have the heat sink properly installed (it doesn't jiggle around) and the fan works. I'm using the stock HSF. Is this too high? Will it come down further as I run the machine longer? BTW, this was with the case open and the cooling shroud off.

2) The Sonata II case has this cooling shroud that they call the Antec Chassis Air Guide. It was a hassle to remove so that I could install everything. Do I really need to reinstall it? I probably will, but then I'll have to remove again it when I get the Core 2 Duo. So, does it really help with cooling?

I can't believe that this thing actually works. I haven't built a PC in over 15 years! :)

BTW, the 70C that I reported above was after running the machine for about 2 hours.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Idle, I guess since I was reading it in the bios. But it was after loading Windows and drivers and such and then rebooting. Like I said, that was about 4C lower than when I first powered it up, so I guess the thermal pad was settling in.
