New build, cant get CD drive to work

Setup:

ASRock X58 extreme
GTX 260
I7-930
6 gigs of G.Skill ram
2 month old Samsung dvd rw drive (sata)

I just put this together this past weekend, and i have not been able to get the CD drive to show up in bios or operate in windows xp sp3. I have tried known-working sata power connections and known working sata cables, as well as moving the sata cable to a different position on the mobo with no difference. Did i somehow nuke the cd drive during the build? Could be a strange coincidence since everything on the board/setup functions normal.

TIA

Have you considered it might just be a bad drive? Also, do you have a spare one or can you borrow one and see if the BIOS regognizes it?

I should clarify:

I got the drive 2 months ago to replace a dead one in my old system. It was working fine Friday when i pulled it to put into the new system.

Im about to cannibalize a dell at work to borrow a sata drive for the night, im hoping its just a fluke that the cd drive died somehow during the build.
