Hey fellas;

Coming from a HP Pavilion Elite m9350f with an upgraded PNY GeForce GTS 250. I am ready for a upgrade, this system is a few years old and showing its age. Not to mention that I have been outta the computer loop for a few years, so i come to the experts....

I play WOW and am awaiting D3, that is about the extent of my gaming, but dont want to "wish I had" this or that if some other game catches my eye. Not to mention that I dont upgrade my computer but every few years.

Will do a slight overclock, nothing to radical :)

Parts just purchased today:

Intel i7-2600k 3.4Ghz unlocked
NZXT Phantom full tower/black
Corsair AX850 PS
EVGA GeForce GTX580 Superclocked
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 16000
Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
Crucial C300 128GB SSD
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM
ASUS 12x BluRay Burner
ASUS 24x DVDRW
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64bit

Parts need to be purchased:

Motherboard????? this is where I am stuck....opinions, I know that I'll have to wait to the new stepping is available. Dont care so much about pricepoint.

Anything else I have missed? Your opinions are greatly appreciated

Dave

Not sure why you need two optical drives...

8GB of ram is PLENTY...

Probably overkill on the PSU too...

Mnewsham knows his stuff, take his advice...

Yeah, you definitely wasted your money if your goal is to play WoW and Diablo 3. Shoulda posted here first! ;)

I'd recommend one of these 3 motherboards:
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3
ASUS P8P67
ASRock P67 Extreme4

TY for your MB suggestions,

Ya it may seem like a waste, but since I upgrade only every couple years, it seems as if this setup will allow me that time between the upgradeitis :)

Even if you "only" upgrade every couple years this build seems like waaaay overkill. If your primary purpose for this machine is gaming you might as well go for the i5-2500K. For gaming purposes it's just as good as the i7 and costs $100 less. Corsair vengeance is nice, but 16 gigs? No way you are going to need that much for gaming, even if you don't plan on upgrading for 2 years. 8 gig would be fine, and go with Gskill if you wanna save a bit extra. GTX 580 is pricey, but if you want the best of the best you're fine there. NZXT Phantom is a great case too. It's pricey yes, but it's a quality case, with excellent cooling and should last you through plenty of builds.
