Hi,

It's been a while since my last rebuild, and wow, have things changed! I'm was thinking of an Athlon based system this time, but it's a tad confusing. What with slots, sockets, SoA, PC133, DDR, RAID0 etc. So I have a few queries before I make a silly mistake.

What is SoA? (Socket A maybe? (For some reason it makes me think of surface mount ICs))

With an Athlon it would appear that I'm better off with PC2100(?) memory, is that so?

Is this RAID0 any good and does the mobo take care of it (i.e. doesn't rely on OS drivers)?

I don't need to worry about monitor, audio, dvd, and burners. I only intend to replace the processor box. I'll be dual booting linux (the via chipset appears to be a bit dodgy according to the kernel mailing list) and win98 (I normally give a drive to each OS). I'd also prefer the unit to be quiet, so I shalln't be getting into overclocking (yet).

So, can I have some recommendations/advice on mobo, cpu, ram, video, and cases please. Onboard ethernet would be nice.

I should also mention that 2D clarity is very important, though these new fangled games look rather funky, so I'm leaning towards a decent 3D card.
