I set up my new board, fired it up, it went right to the existing install of windows (xp64) a couple of reboots later I have the video, chipset and LAN drivers installed and everything working fine, including internet access. I install the audio drivers reboot and lose connectivity.

I reinstall the LAN drivers, nothing.. remove the HD audio... nothing.... if I manually configure the IP address it appears to be working, but It's not -- I do not have any connectivity. No ping in either direction. I tried swapping cables

I tried netsh int ip reset, have tried resetting the router, tried assigning a static IP address, even renaming the computer. Nothing.... I still get the dreaded "this connection as limited or no connectivity"

The on-board LAN is a Realtek RTL8169/8110, I can see the device just fine in Device Manager and it does not show any conflicts.

Any Ideas?

Are the network lights on? Does router/switch its connected show a connection? No lights no signal

On board lans can be very flaky. Disable it and install a regular nic.

Thanks!

Lights I got..

On the back of the board, right by the port, I have a yellow one that flashes occassionally and on my switch I have green.. I even switched ports on that switch and still have green.

Stuck and old NIC from a known working system and it's up and running.. THANKS!

EDIT: Even more strange, now the on-board NIC is working

Glad to know to got it working.

For a new mb, it should normally work. Be sure to get the latest bios and lan drivers from Abit, and complain to them about your problems.
