Oh also, the motherboard ( the asus that is the combo with the 8400 CPU ) ...

A review for the mobo
Pros: Good layout, lots of SATA ports. Rock solid. Started first time and has been up for over a week straight. E8400 and 4GB CAS 4 G.Skill memory. Actually has a COM port, no bracket included though.

Cons: Limited compatibility with 1066 memory, Refer to Asus website for compatibility charts. Temperatures are not accurate in Asus software. Secondary power connector not in ideal location for Antec P18x case where power supply is in the bottom part of the case.

Other Thoughts: I do not overclock so I have not tried to push this board.

so... if i do get the P182... do you think i'll have problems?

Thanks for the fast reply aigomor la, I do plan on mildly overclocking the CPU.
I just really want the fastest performance/price ratio.

I also would like the computer to last for a long time too though...

For the graphics card: The Radeon HD 4850 looks like what I'd like to get. I don't want to spend 300 dollars on a graphics card because I just don't game that much. What brand has the best warranty...? I'm really lost. I only know about nvidia companys...

lol...

well as long as you realized what you want, that only helps you get exactly that. :T

the HD4850 like all ATI cards have crap warrenty. They dont compare to nvidia's. My favorate brand on ATI side tho is most likely HiS and PowerColor.

I dont think ATI makes there own cards anymore so you wont find Original ATI factory unless its a diamond card.

What GPU would you suggest...? I have an XFX GPU for my parents and I'm pretty happy with it. It has a double lifetime warranty.

I'm happy with a 22" or 24" monitor. I just don't know what one to get >_<

Free shipping is always a plus. I'm willing to use websites OTHER than newegg ^ ^

Warranty is a big thing for me too.

It's not as bad as it sounds in the P182 with the secondary power connector. You just have to bring it around the back and then plug it back in.

Smithrwon, thanks for the heads up. Seeing as you guys are saying the P182 is really quiet... I think I'll stick with it. I'd really like a quiet computer.

As far as changing the CPU... i'm lost>_>

OH and again, if nvidia then has a GPU that is pretty close in price to ATI and performs about the same. I'm willing to go with them if they have a better warranty. I'd just pick one out by myself but I've looked at GPU reviews lately and they've overwhelmed me BIG TIME

newegg has a sale on the 9800GX2 by eVGA for 289.99.

That card/price is hard to beat. Only problem is it requires both a 6pin and 8pin pci-e 2.0 connector on the psu.

http://i125.photobucket.com/al...aigomorla/IMG_0018.jpg

If that card looks yummy to you, then make sure your psu has that 8pin cuz its fairly new, if not get an adapter for it.

The other option i would recomend is the gtx260 core 216.

I would link it, but newegg seems to be down.

Blain, do you have any suggestion on the GPU or CPU?

How about the monitor..?

I plan on keeping this computer for 2+ years. So that's a reason why aigomarla said he recommended a quad.

EDIT:

after looking at the prices of quads... they seem too much $$ for what I'm looking to be doing.

I'll stick with the same CPU and mobo

I just need help on the GPU and the monitor and I'll be able to order. [ i hope lol ]

I've picked all my parts

SAPPHIRE 100242-1GL Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3
Vs.
HIS Hightech H487F512P Radeon HD 4870 512MB 256-bit GDDR5

Does anyone know which one would be better? ( which gives more performance for the money...?)

Monitor I picked: ASUS VW222U Black 22"

EDIT:

I ordered that line filter.

----------

UPDATE:
Ordered all parts

went with the 4870

total came to a few dollars shy of 1300. I still have to buy a mouse, keyboard, and decent speakers. ( Any suggestions on those would be very much appreciated. )

I have ~200 to spend on those three items. ( Willing to go over )

That's fanboyism

First of all, spell check. Second, since ATI doesn't make their own cards you have to rely on the manufacturer for a warranty. Visiontek offers a lifetime warranty, how is that crap?

eVGA + all nvidia companys minus gigabyte and asus allows replacement of stock heat sink to aftermarket without the void of warrenty. Not to mention 90% of all Nvidia card companys already offer lifetime.

You cant just cant compare nvidia warrenty with ati.

And i am not speaking from fanboyism, cuz i OWN BOTH SET OF CARDS.
*sigh*

Fanboyism only involves when you dont have both, and your talking crap about one just because of its name. So please b4 u start putting me out on a bonfire, do some reading on my posts.

Also back in the days when the 9800XT and other ATI cards of that nature was out, ATI sold there cards on there own. They used to be called Built By ATI cards, AKA BBA cards. These dont exist anymore, and you need to go though a vendor.

That was what i was trying to point out. But in terms of quality the BBA cards were greater then all the other ATI brands.

Need me to clear up anything else?

how important is lifetime warranty on a 150$ product aigo ? If i'm not mistaken you get 3 years with asus for example. If it craps out after 3 years, big deal, the card is going to be worth less then 25$ ...

I wouldn't disregard ati products just because of that. He doesn't seem to game much, and at 24" a HD4850 is prolly better then a 9800gtx+, or equal ...

oh im not, but the op seemed very worried about warrenty. So i was just letting him know of my experiences.

He asked for other solutions. :T

I use ATI cards as i said (even have there flagship in my main system).

OP: good choices in the end.

aigomorla, I read up about that:

http://www.motherboards.org/re.../hardware/1810_12.html

By the sounds of it, they didn't really think it was amazing.

Also, I thought I was going to get a dual core, not a quad core

When it comes to gaming the phenom platform has a wider IO chanel. So in a sense its faster.

Your not overclocking here, so intel doesnt have much edge against AMD.

Im willing to bet you everyone who posted a recomendation for you to get intel is overclocked, so there picking for you out of overclocking experience.

Stock speed, the phenom is hard to beat against a stock intel. Add Xfire on the phenom and make it a spider, and Bye bye stock intel.

If you do want to get your feet wet and try overclocking, and by george, the parts you selected are good for overclocking, then no chance will the AMD have, however with overclocking comes more aggressive rules like stress testing, and aftermarket cooling.

You in a sense really need to love computers, to keep up with it.

You didn't answer the OP's question about dual core / quad core. AMD's Phenom is a bit of a waste if he's gaming and three cores will sit idle, don't you think?

Thanks rogue star, I appreciate it. I'll post some pictures of it when I get the parts and build the thing:)

aigomorla, thank you also for helping me out in picking parts.

Marcvenice has a very good point lol. Granted, a lifetime does make a person a little more happy^ ^.
