I bet a lot of people that get the ASRock X58 get the cheapest OCZ memory to go with it since they have to get 50% more memory and it's about 50% more expensive than a good P55. I know that tested DIMM compatibility lists are very incomplete, but when I am sure about the MB earlier in purchasing than the RAM, I check the list and see if I can find a good set on there that I can find available for good value.

You can run an x58 board just fine with 4GB of RAM and will run in dual channel just like in a P55 board, so you don't have to get 50% more memory. Most people do, mainly because it can do triple channel memory so they want all that extra bandwidth (even though for about 90% of users it makes absolutely no difference.)

Thanks for the CM 212+ tip. To be safe I've looked at a lot of CPU cooler alternatives, and found it stands out nicely. The Tuniq Tower 120 also seems effective, quiet, and affordable, but only flies for the LGA775 socket (although the ASRock X58 E I think has placement for LGA775 fans, so it might be an option anyway).

My only concern is that the 212+ won't fit in the P193 (which has reduced clearance for CPU cooling due to the side fan), do you happen to know?

EDIT: hm, it seems Antec support does not think it will fit in the P193 :-( link

EDIT2: spcr has an evaluation of low-profile fans, and I've seen others with the Big Shuriken in their P193 system. link
