Hi guys, I'm not sure if you saw my other thread, but my computer died, and I HAVE to have a new one very fast in order to do my school work.

With that said, I pieced together some new components, please tell me if something is terribly wrong, or if I'm paying way too much for something. Here goes:

***Made suggested changes***

ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 - $92.99 from NewEgg
Corsair XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) DDR 400 - $93.00 from NewEgg
Gigabyte 6600GT - $119.99 from NewEgg
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Retail - $156.00 from NewEgg

shipping - $10.83
total - $471.81

I have a power supply but I think it's going to die on my soon, so that's the only thing I havnen't figured out yet. I'm usually partial to Antec power supplies, but I don't have to get an Antec.

Any clue as to which power supply I should get, I have everything else. It's going to power the above mentioned parts, plus 2 hard drives, 2 dvd drives, floppy.

THANKS!!!

Nice rig.

Drop the CPU cooler - get a better CPU instead. An opteron if you are going to OC.

400w forton source should be good for a PSU.

Do you think I should drop the cooler, and go for a Retail CPU?

I don't overclock, not worth my time. I need a system to work, and work reliably. Like many others here, I never turn it off, and depend on it greatly.

Yes, definitely get a retail CPU. I suggest the Opteron 144 or 146. If those are too expensive, the Athlon 64 3200+ should do fine. For a motherboard, an Epox EP-9NPA series board should do perfectly. They're inexpensive but highly reliable. I suggest the 9NPAJ, but any from that series will do.

ZipZoomFly.com has extremely cheap Corsair ValueSelect RAM. Check out their prices before ordering.

Good luck!

I agree with hurtstotalkto you on all accounts. Retail CPU for sure and either the Opterans or the A 64 3200+ will do you quite well. Epox makes very solid mobos and then are rock solid for stability at stock settings (plus they are very good for OCing for those that are into ocining). I have the Epox 9NPA+Ultra with an Athlon 64 3200+.

Antec, Enermax, and Fortran make good PSUs.

Thanks for all your help guys, fantastic.

Anyone have a specific power supply model I should go for. I read through JohnnyGuru's thread, and it was information overload. I don't really have the time to digest all that info right now.
