I'm looking to get a new card below the $150 mark. All of these looked okay, but I had a few questions.
First of all, does anyone know what the real rate of success with softmodding the 9800SE is? Are there any particular 9800SE versions that you need for the softmod to work (both of those have customer reviews claiming success, but I don't know how much I trust those).
Also, how is the performance of the 380MHz 9800SE without the mod (I can't seem to find any version of the SE in any of Anandtech's articles)?
If the stock 380MHz version can at least come close to the 9600XT's speeds then it's a no brainer. Even if the softmod doesn't work, it still wouldn't be a bad card for the money. On the other hand, if the softmod doesn't work out and the card sucks....
Then of course, there's the slower 9800SE, which is just plain super cheap.
Last but not least, does nVidia actually have anything competitive (price/performance wise) with these cards? I was looking at the 5700Ultra, but it's a little more expensive. How's the value on the 5700nu?
Opinions?
(Please, don't suggest used.
