This is Hardware-related, ok?

Epox 8RDA+ (with NVidia V.2.0 driver pack)
512mb Crucial PC2700
WD 8mb 80GB HD
LiteOn LTD163 DVD
LiteOn 401248 CDRW
W2K SP3

Everything runs GREAT. 3DMark/SANDRA/IE/email....etc

Install Nero. Yes, a LEGAL copy, the one that came with my LiteOn burner. The install goes great. I click Nero. The very first thing it does is bring up a dialogue box "Checking SCSI/IDE Bus" my speakers go *POP!!!* and it locks up. Must hard reboot. It reboots fine and everything except Nero runs great.

I have the DVD and CDRW on the same IDE channel b/c the cables aren't long enough to reach from the HD as master and one of the optical drives as slave.

The drives are jumpered correctly. I started out with DVD -> Master CDRW->Slave. Crash. Then I tried Cable Select for the CDRW, same thing. I am stumped.

Please help me out.

Basically look on the nvidia driver disk for the whql ide drivers and install those instead of the performance drivers. Hopefully your problem is the same as the other guy had.

Uninstall SP3 for Win2k and use only SP2.
SP3 doesn't allow direct paging of the kernel I think, and screws the I/O bytes lock.

Try with SP2 only and get back to us

Yes, but the drivers in 2.0 ARE WHQL certified. :( And the 2.0 driver packfrom NVidia is self-extracting...how do I get one driver out of it?

It doesn't say which is which (I'm look at the CD contents) it's Driver\NVidia\Chipset\ then it's got two folders 1_15 and 1.15....nothing specific inside...it has a "W2K folder" but which driver? Help please.

This just sucks ass. Sorry for the language, but I'm completely pissed off. AGAIN, an AMD platform can't do the most basic of tasks. I'm NOT bashing AMD...you'll notice all my main rigs are AMD, but the SUPPORT is what's killing me.

My 8RDA+ loads windows faster than any board I've ever had, including those with RAID0 stripes. But if I can't burn CDs, what's the fvcking point of having a board that will do a 200MHz FSB with a PCI/AGP lock? There isn't one.

If I can't get this working by Monday....I don't know. Sh1t. I just bought a B TBred too. I hate this....all I want is a mobo that runs everything with no conflicts...oh yeah....there's this small upstart company named "Intel"....I hear they make those kind of boards. :|

*EDIT*
I read the threads over in MOBOS. I loaded the drivers off the CD that came w/the board instead of the 2.0's. I set my CDRW as master. All that crap. Same thing. This mobo is SO damn good....but no burn CDs, it's of no use to me.

Thank you, JackBurton. Very nice of you to inform AND LINK ME. :)

Unfortunately, the problem persists. It took me awhile to find the README, then to figure out how to run the commadn line (DOS isn't my thing...but I know enough to get by :)) I installed that ASPI layer and rebooted. Same problem.

This sucks ass. Again. This board is SO fast..and I haven't even done anything past the standard 166FSB yet. What am I gonna do for CD burning w/no Nero?

Oh man, what a mass of misinformation. Do not use the drivers from the Epox CD. It is a very simple task to get the IDE drivers from the Nvidia driver pack. There are two IDE drivers in the 2.0 driver pack from Nvidia. One is WHQL certified, while the performance "SW" drivers ARE NOT and will screw with Nero.

Get a zip management program like WinRAR and extract all files from the Nvidia driver pack. There will be a folder labeled "IDE" or similar in the main folder, and you just point the update driver wizard to it. It wil load a WHQL certified IDE drivers and you will be fine.

This has nothing to do with AMD at all, and will only happen with Nero and the Performance "SW" drivers....programs like EZCD Creator will work fine.

Mike...a little patience man....relax. :)

Thanks very much. I know it's not AMD directly. As I said, above, why is it always AMDs support that gets happy little users like me in a bind? Sigh. I'm working on fixing this. Thanks, Insane3D and MechBgon.

MechBgon, thanks for the PM. :) The updating Nero thing fixed it...I'm not sure why, but it did. I have mucked with this so much, I will proabalby wipe and reload again. I am neurotic....all this reload and delete stuff messes w/the registry...I want a clean start.

Thanks...at least I know what is goin on now. :)

Michael...before you do a fresh install, why not make a integrated, bootable Win2K SP3 CD so you can install SP3 right off the bat?

:)

Edit:

Directions for this can be found here.

:)

Yes, it is. Why? It was a free update thru Nero's site.
