New box just stopped POSTing

Hi.

I'm building a new system with a CelD, Abit IS7, and Antec Overture case to use as a HTPC. I had the mobo and stuff POSTing just fine, but was having IDE troubles.

At some point, I turned it off with the power switch while booting up a Windows 2000 install CD, and ever since, it won't post. The power switch is dead. If I unplug the power supply from electricity and plug it back in, nothing happens, unless I wait long enough for the green light on the mobo to stop being lit. If I do that, then when I plug the electricity back in, everything goes on for about 2 seconds, then just switches off.

I'm convinced I must have done some little thing wrong, but I have no clue what it is. Can anyone help?

Just to add to what I just said, if I unplug the power button from the motherboard and plug the power back in, the motherboard green light goes on, and that's it.

Did I break the power button on my brand new case?

If I were you I would take it right back to step 1, unconnect and reconnect everything, make sure everything is connected very secure for starters... unplug your IDE cables and see if it posts, since you said you were having IDE trouble. Also make sure your Power, LED, speaker, etc. wires are properly plugged into your mobo... your mobo's manual should have a schematic.

After some googling told me it was okay, I hooked up the reset button to the power connector on the mobo. Mobo POSTs and boots up perfectly.

I conclude I've broken the power cable on a 3-hour old case.

Time to return the case for a refund and get a nice, boring, generic, unstylish minitower that would let me route IDE cables properly?

Well, it happens. I think the odds of something like that happening increase when you are putting a new system together and you get excited. Kinda like that one image from another thread of the newb running to his new build with the 6800GT in hand, tripping over the LAN cables and breaking his $500 video card. eheheh

I bought an Antec 1600 with the 300W PS and moved the mobo into it. Seems to POST and everything; now I just need to find out why it can't boot.

Oh wait. That might just have something to do with the fact that I didn't hook up floppy, optical, or hard drives yet, wouldn't it? ;-)
