So, which will have a higher PPD on a GRO_A5 unit ? Current dual 6234's are 135k ppd

  • Dual 6234's@2.4

  • Dual Xeon 5639@2.13

  • essentially tied

OK, so the SR-2 and the dual 5639 Xeons are kicking butt @ 178k ppd... Now I got 2 E5530 Xeons for the old motherboard (2.4 ghz), 16 cores. So do you think it has a chance of doing a bidadv in time for the bonus ?

I wouldn't bet the farm on it, and I have no documentation, but I would say most likely you need 2 matched chips. At least the same exact model number.

Same model, yes. At least with chips past, I can vouch for mismatches working as long as you had the older stepping CPU in socket 0.

OK, another upgrade. Going to put 2 E5560's (2.8 ghz Xeons, 8 threads each) in the old motherboard. They should make the bigadv deadline since at 2.4 ghz I am at 2.7 days, and they require 2.4 days, so the extra 400 mhz should but me over the deadline.

That will make 3 bugadv boxes, and 600k ppd total.

Well, crap... of the 2 E5560's that arrived, one was DOA and once was damaged. I am trying to return them now, and have 2 E5570's on the way.

hey Mark check out the DC sub-forum over at [H]ardforum...they have tons of Folding Wisdom, especially when it comes to crunching with 2P and 4P machines...and they can certainly help you find out if your CPUs are "extra spicy" or not...

Where did you buy the "old" Intel motherboard at such a nice price? Low $200's?

Bruce

The SUPERMICRO MBD-X8DTL-i-O Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX Dual Intel Xeon 5500 and 5600 Series Server Motherboard

Was an open box at newegg. New ones are $260 I think.

OK, I am rocking !!!!! I got my new E5570 (2.93 ghz, same as I7 940) chips today, and its doing 25 minutes per frame on an 8104, for 89k PPd. Not bad for 2 quad cores... $160 for BOTH chips on a $215 motherboard. But 2 660ti video cards can beat them for PPD, but more expensive and more importantly for me, way more heat I think.

yep...you're talking 190W vs 300W.

I'm using an XFX 850W for my dual CPU machine, could have gone with lower wattage but those did not offer the extra connectors I needed for the mobo.

One has a 660 watt Seasonic ( the dual 5570's) and the other 2 run AX850 Corsair.

Okay, but I don't see how that works since the 3.3 and the 5 volt are rated at 125 watts combined i.e. my Opterons 4300s are 95 watts each... 180 watts. My ps's are 150 watt and I don't max out the CPUs.
Any thoughts people?
