hey all i am new here but not to computers but having an unusual problem. i got a new machspeed board for christmas (n2paplite) and an amd 2400+ athalon chip. I know i need ddr memory traded to get some from my friend. 128 chip just for now. i removed and re-installed everything with no problems. but now i get just a black screen. i can here the fan going and the cpu fan going as well. i got 2 system fans also if your wondering. the cdrom light is lit but screen stays black. i took the memory out and same thing. my question is should i get something on the screen even with no memory inserted cause i am not sure if the memory is the right speed. my videocard was working in the old tyan board last night but nothing in this one. i have a ati rage fury pro 32 mb i believe. the video card is 2x/4x and the board states it support 4x why wont my pc boot up. the only thing that is really in question is the memory but i thought i would still get a post even with no memory in. well i am off to the store to buy the right memory. cause i know my videocard was working last night in my other board so i will start there. cpu, board, fan, are all new christmas presents. i have tried to re-seat everything and clear cmos still nothing so i will go buy the correct memory and see how that goes. any thoughts would be a great help. one other thing i had moved the power supply to 230v instead of 115v cause at 115 power would not stay on. well post and help me out please anyone..... thanks in advance

No, you'll most likely not get a POST screen if the memory is bad. Just a beep code, or sometimes nothing at all but fan spin like you describe.

Also, a 230watt PSU is pretty lean for this system. I'd get something that has at least 200watts on the 3.3v @ +5v rail and 300watts overall.

Best of luck...

If you did what it sounds like you did, you might be screwed. Are you saying that you switched the (slider) switch on your Power Supply from 115v to 230v?? DO NOT DO THIS!!! Unless you live overseas, you need to leave that switch where it is (115v); that is what you are plugging into, not what the power supply outputs. If the Power Supply did not "stay on" when at 115v, then there is something else wrong. Please define "would not stay on". Does that mean that it started and then shut down? Well, that means you have other problems.
Info is king; please provide if you want help.

Ok well the update is i bought pny memory pc 2700 333mhz and its suppose to work at pc2100 266mhz as well. The power supply switch is on 115v. I tried two video cards and when i press the power button the fans will turn for a few seconds and stop and i get nothing on the screen and no noise from the tower.

Have a screwed the whole board and cpu by changing the voltage on the power supply to 230v? The fans and periphals were working and running at 230v but still nothing would trigger the monitor to come on??? Well i guess i messed everything would you guys suggest returning the motherboard and processor? I have another power supply to test it with but i don't think that its 400 watts. i will try to scrape some money together to buy one if you guys think that will fix it.

Thanks for all your help and to the people that just made fun of a guy trying to learn don't read the post if you don't have anything good to say. It seem like many people are having problems with this board so its not just me, just a mistake I made in purchasing it.

Make sure you don't have a case mounting standoff shorting the bottom of the board PCB. Seen it before, and it acted like you describe. Don't keep playing with it, remove the board totally and make sure all standoffs and mounting holes are aligned.

Huh?? Not sure who you are referring to as it doesn't appear that anyone in this thread "made fun" of you. Perhaps something from your other three posts?!
EDIT: Having just looked up your other post(s), I see that you are a bit touchy my friend. Although some humor was used, no one "took you to task" or made fun of you. Ease up a bit. I know this can be frustrating but you will get farther by being a bit humble while you learn. We all went through this. Another idea is to limit your threads to one at a time. You will find that the info is more consistant that way. Case in point is what I posted below. I see from your other thread that some have suggested siomilar ideas or techniques, although not exactly. I will let my post stand as is here though. I do disagree with the thought that having your system set to 230 wouldn't cause any problems though, as you will see in the first line of my next paragraph:

Back to your problem. Yes, there is a good chance you screwed something (MB, CPU, etc) by having the switch on the PS @ 230. I'm not familiar with what exactly that would do, but I do know that it can do some damage.
Your best bet right now would be to start over; completely. Take the system apart completely and start over.First reinstall the CPU, checking that the latch is locked down to secure it and also reinstall the Heatsink with new thermal paste. Next, install your RAM, making sure the side clips "click" into place. Then install the MB, making sure you are using the correct standoffs and there are none in places they shouldn't be or any "extras". Then install just the basics to test the boot. Just install the floppy drive and video card. Put a boot floppy in the drive. Connect the ATX power connector and hook up the power switch to the board. Make sure the Heastink fan is plugged into the MB. Do not connect any CD drives, hard drives ornfans other than those mentioned. Then see if it will boot. If it starts to boot, go directly into the BIOS (by pressing delete or whatever your board specifies). If you can get that far, press and hold the power button for several seconds to shut down. Then install one extra item at a time, booting to the BIOS between each installation.
If you do this procedure and can't get it to boot initially, then you might want to consider returning the MB &CPU.
