good news i think, and stronger support that the original specs (430/1200) were very conservative

theres got to be a 500Mhz ultra part......just waiting in wait for ATI

Heh, add the fact that actual clocks are a lot higher than the control panel indicates in some cases, and there's strong support that the vast majority of GTX's can even handle as high as 530-550Mhz on stock cooling in a hot room w/o the slightest issue. nVidia was being far more than just conservative.

Possibly Nvidia kept the clock rates down, so as to lower power consumption and fan noise. If so, nice to have the choice.

Has nothing to do with it, the card runs a far lower core mhz in 2D mode which is 99% of your time on PC, only when you run a game and enter 3D mode do you get the higher core mhz, and the fan is tempature controled and who cares about its increase in noise mid gamming as your only gonna hear the games sounds anyhow.

People may or may not care, but all the same it is a definite feature they are promoting. This just seems to be a way to give us more options. Personally I would take the quieter option knowing I can increase stock speed if a game shows up where i need it. :beer:

If you're one of those people who won't even install central air or heating because the fan in your garage bothers you all the way up in your bedroom, you can always underclock your card.
