If that's the case, then Stagg-Paterno Championship Trophy makes no sense, or am I missing something? Is Paterno a "Legend" or a "Leader"?

He's both? No idea what they're trying to do with the names of the trophies.

There is so much fail here it hurts.

In an attempt to condition myself into liking the new logo, I have made it my avatar here :)

It almost looks like the G could represent a 6, maybe they're preparing for the next 4 teams.

I waited all day for this to be pulled back as some sort of sick non-April April Fool's joke but alas... this is actually real. W T F

They need to get Doogie for this one... 'Legendary!'

God, the Big 10 is just so over the top in its narcissism. You don't see any of the other conferences pulling shit like this. Sure, the SEC may think highly of itself, but at least it doesn't call one of its divisions "legends," or have such stupid names for its trophies/awards.

the new name makes me hate ohio state even more, if that was even humanly possible

Wut

No new name, still The Big Ten, just the logo changed.

Seek psych help if a perceived conference name change makes you hate a school :).

I did not know Arizona, Utah and Colorado were on the Pacific coast. Thanks for the geography lesson. :).

edit: Oh, and they have 12 teams now.

Well, considering the "Midwest" is technically in the easternmost 1/3 of US landmass...

East Coasters pretty much consider everything west of Missouri to be the "West Coast".

I agree. Everything announced today sucks and I speak as a BigTen alum.

Ah, a fellow Buckeye.

I've been browsing the various Big Ten school related forums today, from the evil mgoblog, to the beloved theozone. Everyone in Big Ten land and beyond concurs.

At least those in the former Pac-10 (formerly the Pac-8, BTW) can count...and see...and think:

North - Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, California
South - Southern California, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Colorado

Bet it was a bunch of marketing majors that came up with this. Sounds like the name of a tournament one would play in middle school.

who cares about the names.

seriously

2 divisions and a championship game. we've been begging for it for years and have it.

now for illinois to fire zook and guenther, and we can get some more balance

but yeah, logo and league names gay, trophy names meh. buy you couldnt really call the LB away the butkus, cuz ya know, thats already the name of the best LB award for the whole NCAA.

LOL @ Brees on the trophy and not brady, but then again, Brees college stats DESTROY Brady and he's not a douche :p

Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year: Bob Griese, Purdue Drew Brees, Purdue

If I were a quarterback, I'm not sure that I'd want a trophy that was pronounced, "greasy breeze". It sounds like what happens if you eat too many Olestra chips...

Maybe they're trying to shame the players to be the best on the field.

Kinda like the Johnny Cash song - A Boy Named Sue

In this this day of overthink I can't believe this passed the smell test.

They've said they weren't doing East/West or North/South from the beginning. It just doesn't actually work (Michigan too far east, Wisconsin too far north, etc.) and they are anal.

Meh. The names I can live with. The logo blows.

They could do the East/West or North/South just fine. If you look at the SEC, they have Vandy in the East when Auburn is farther east than Nasheville. Fudging it some would not hurt especially if it gives a better balance, which is why the SEC chose that alignment.

It's like they went into this meeting and said "We need to F the names and logos up as much as possible."

LOL

Although, I think if you put Greasy in front of any other name sounds pretty funny :)
