I know many of you are avid mountain bikers so I thought I'd ask.

A friend backed over my Kona Stinky a couple of weeks ago.

OK, so it was prone on the driveway, but you would think a bike would be RATHER visible against concrete. Apparently not. It's not totally totalled, but the swingarm's bent among other bits - so it's economically totalled. Being an idiot, I didn't have it separately insured, and the household insurance doesn't cover it. And I'd just put on a Super T fork too.

I don't ride much these days, but still, it's handy to have a nice bike.

So, what's a good replacement? I like something that can take a beating, full suspension of course - about 5-6" of rear travel, and it has to be a linkage design. Budget - about the same as the Stinky build ($3,500 - $4,000). I'm looking into various different bikes at the moment but I'd be interested in your recommendations.

Are you strictly a downhiller? I go with only about 1.5" travel in the rear fork, 3" in the front, and that's way more than I need. Then again, I ride cross-country, and would actually prefer a hardtail. :D

You've already checked out www.mtbr.com, right?

My choice, in that range, would probably be a Santa Cruz Super 8, but that could just be because I love SC bikes. :D
