40C-mid50C stable core temperature

what is the best, 3d mark or otherwise (and version), benchmark for the following system:

2.4ghz pent 4
512 ddram pc 2700 333mhz
bfg 6600gt OC agp 8x
windows sp2

And what will 3dmark tell you? Nothing, infact 3dmark2k5 will tell you the 6600 sucks.
Try some games.

games work fine, except for halo, which i cant get higher than 46 fps on 800x600 w/ all details on, AA and AF are set to application controlled (in its built-in benchmark) => can anyone help, or is this normal?

resting temp: 43 C
post-action temp: mid 50 C

i ask you, is this normal?

I am not a 6600 GT owner but I think your 3DMark 05 score is good, and why do you play Halo on 800x600? At this resolution you're most probably CPU limited.
If you wanna get the most out of your card you should install the latest video card and mobo drivers. And if that's not enough for you, try overclocking, but beware, overclocking cancels your warranty.

i dont think i should overclock, because i like the lifetime warranty on bfg products

mobo drivers that you speak of = chipset drivers? (aren't chipset drivers supposed to be installed after the operating system?)

edit: halo 1024x768 max settings, application-controlled AA, AF: 55.26 fps (timedemo benchmark)
edit: 3dmark05 new score! (3170)
