No thanx. I'd actually take the Beetle over that if I was paying. Fraction of the cost, more practical, and better looking as well. If I was having a midlife crisis as well as being almost blind, I might take the Porsche.

Better looking??
Lulz, that might be the most pathetic "opinion" I've seen posted in the Garage forum.
:thumbsup:No, what's pathetic is spending $60k+ on something you don't like just because you think it will impress others. When I buy something for myself, I buy purely on what I think of the product. If you judge people soley on what car they drive, that is the definition of pathetic. So why would I give a damn about what you think about the car I drive? Which isn't a Beetle.

Remember, AMERICAN test standards. When brits talk about 60mpg, they're assuming you drive with the parking brake off and the gallons are 4.5L instead of 3.8L.
EPA says the gasoline VW Bug from 2010 only gets about 29mpg on the highway, so 40 is a very significant improvement in fuel economy.
Not sure how fair the comparison is. EPA says that rating is for a 2.5L gasoline engine, so that's probably somewhere around 160-170HP. If the diesel is less power than that, then it's an apples to oranges comparison.
I still can't read the OP link because of connection problems, but does it say what size of diesel or how much power it has?the real culprit, i'm guessing, is the bug's aerodynamics.

It could just be another case of Shitty Engine Syndrome (SES). A Honda Civic Si burns more gas than an Accord V6 despite the car weighing less, having considerably less power, and less torque. Some engines just burn a lot of fuel because they suck.
The engine lineup will be the 2.5-liter five cylinder making 170 hp, the 2.0-liter TDI diesel (140 hp) and the 2.0-liter four-banger (200 hp). Other variants will be offered around the world.

The alpha male does shit for his own enjoyment. He doesn't need to impress others. 😎
