One of my younger sisters is finally moving out of my parents into her own place. She is having to purchase a number of furnishings. I have been able to recommend various stuff to buy, but am stumped on a bed. When I moved out I got a super deal on a bed because my friend had connections to a local plant that produced beds and I was able to get a $1200 mattress for like $400. Anyway, any other mattress I have purchased is way out of her range. I'm looking for a good sub $500 mattress. Are there any suggestions?

By the way, I can't hook her up with the same connections I had...otherwise I would have.

Thanks.

And the answer is NO to any of you who are going to offer to have her sleep with you.

Get a futon? Those things run around $400 with mattress and double as couch.

How big of a matress? I got a twin sized one for about $100 at Ikea. There were bigger and nicer ones there for more.

She's going to want a regular mattress, but thanks for the suggestion.

I would definitely say that she is going to want a queensize...but double might be enough.

So she finally turned 18 and now on her own eh. Well, if I can't offer to have her sleep with me, can I sleep with her instead?

She's actually 23, graduated from College, and finally moving out. Taken a bit for her independence to come up to speed. Regardless, the answer is still NO.

For those asking for pics... are they somehow going to get me better answers...or just serve as the next object of your pubescent fantasies? :)

Cheap and comes with the motion of the ocean

Good suggestion, but not quite the answer I was looking for. I don't want her suddenly becoming attracted to 70's p0rn stars.

While these are great suggestions, I was looking more toward a specific mattress that is in that range (obviously mattress stores are all over the place with prices) that I could probably find at one of the many local mattress stores (I have no idea how so many places stay in business).

I got a Serta pillow top w/box spring for $450 last Nov. I've been happy with it. Check the local furniture / mattress stores. Just get the cheap metal bed frame for the extra $25 (if they don't throw it in), and you have a complete bed. Those places are always running deals. Keep checking until you find the one you like.

Of course, if she wants to try it out, I can give her a trial run.
