I purchased two batteries for our phones, described as "new (original Pantech)". They were almost suspiciously cheap, but the seller seemed to have a great rating.

The contacts have some obvious wear on them and the serial # for one is older (lower) than one of the batteries we already have (which came with the phone). The other batt has a slightly different serial # format (two fewer letters at the end), so I decided not to compare it directly.

Should I interpret this to mean one battery I received could be used and/or at least was produced BEFORE the batt I already have? I mean, it's called "serial" number for a reason, right? i.e. labeled/numbered in some serial fashion

Haven't tested them yet.
