They can only bury themselves deeper. I consider it justice (for all) after the whole napster fight. Here's a band that had no record deal, no money, would eat bologna as a meal, and spent almost every dime on vodka and the like. A staggering number of local fans heard them, and made bootleg tapes to hand out to their friends. This widespread 'pirating' of their live music got them noticed, and an album deal. It got them their break. They were the underdog that fans could associate themselves with; relate to their music. Fast forward a few years and a few million dollars. You're the foundation of a rock generation. Anything you create (even toe nail clippings are sold on ebya for crying out loud) is worth $$. You no longer need free advertising, as you have corporate yuppies whoring themselves for you day and night. But you hear about fans making CD's of your now ubiquitous music, and it infuriates you because you think it's lost revenue.

That is a sell out. People help you succeed to the point of becoming a legend, and then once fame is attained, you take it for granted. As soon as your rate of income decreases you start pointing fingers at everyone but yourself, despite fans continued disappointment with your latest work. You are without a doubt, Robin Hood turned into the Sheriff.
I find it interesting that you take the time and effort to write about MetallicA / Napster, yet apparently don't even know the truth behind it.

Facts:
- Napster banned the users. MetallicA didn't ask for that to happen nor did they want it (banning specifically) to happen.
- MetallicA's only stance against Napster was to let THEM (MetallicA) choose how, when, and by what means their music is distributed. It is their property after all. (Where are all the righteous activists on this board now?)

Sure they came out looking like the bad guys, but only to those who either didn't know the facts or don't care to.

BTW, you're using the term "sell-out" incorrectly. As much as it is the word-of-the-day in this situation, at least use it right.

Their best songs are remakes of classics like Bob Seger's Turn The Page, or Queen's Stone Cold Crazy. That's the only reason I bought Garage Inc, that and Whiskey In A Jar (another remake), which I really like. The rest is just awful.

James Hetfield is an awful singer, IMO - see Sad But True.

I'd be willing to bet that James Hetfield can sing better than you can.

He has an incredible voice - how many other people do you know that can scream-sing worth a damn?

I don't understand how you can like Metallica's Stone Cold Crazy, but not their original material.

Metallica doesen't give a damn about fame and fortune, they've got enough of that already to last a lifetime. They're doing what they've always done; whatever the fsck they want to do. If you don't like it.. Fine. But you don't need to shoot your mouth off about how they've betrayed their fans, cut their hair, are not heavy anymore, whatever.

What a bunch of crap.

Maybe you should form your own band, then you would understand.
