All the decoding stuff is done in SW.

The latest release can be used with Audigy 1`s. And adds EAX 4.0 support, in hardware, to all Audigys. Including Audigy 1`s.

But you have to do some tricks to get the A2 drivers to install on a A1 card.

I'll stay away from them until I read a few more reviews.

Not been a major fan of creative drivers recently. :disgust:

Nope.
Im on about the official drivers from the website. Its recently been updated. The latest official drivers add EAX 4.0 support to all Audigy cards, and work on all Audigy cards without hacks/mods.

I was wondering about that, noticed that the driver date did not change.

I notice MUCH better sound quality and a good deal less "pops". For once, a creative driver release that seems to fix things.

Hey, is there any way to tell if these are updated or not? I can't really tell, I don't notice much difference. In device manager it says Audigy 2 WDM (The thing talks about VXD why doesn't it say that?). The date says 10/21/03 version 5.12.5.xxx. If I do autoupdate on Creative's site, it says I need to install the EAX 4.0 drivers. So how can I tell if this is working or not? '

EDIT: Also when I click about on the EAX console, it says version 1.0xxx is that right?

If you're having sound issues with the drivers then try uninstalling the old drivers and then installing the new ones again.

This is what I`ve for my Audigy 1 sound card in Device Manager with the latest drivers installed, listed as "Creative SB Audigy" so that`s correct and driver details are 21st Oct 2003 with version 5.12.5.441 so all is correct.

If you run the .exe installer a second time (over the initial install), Windows will display the correct driver revision under Device Manager.

Ah, so it is just corrected from installing twice rather than a specific way. I made the wrong assumption before.

50, VXD is ye olde school and as such undesirable -so no worries there with the WDM. Perhaps autoupdate is detecting a previous version is installed as that info is not updated without installing again as above.

EAX console is up to 2.00.09. There have been a bunch of app updates since the A2 software was initially released and it seems you may not have updated those yet.

How do I know if these drives (EAX 4.0) installed correctly or not..? My issue is that after the web update completed (I had only chose EAX 4.0 update), I got the following message in my browser:

Operation is not allowed when the object is closed.
Object Initialization Failed: CL_Utils.Cipher

Sigh.. Any ideas..? Thanks..

Update: I went into the cache area that the driver installation gets downloaded into and re-ran it successfully this time without any error.. One thing I notice though is when WinXP starts up now, the default WinXP boot sound now cuts out for a moment in the middle of it.. lol.. <rolls eyes> Anyone else have this issue?

Are you sure EAX console is at 2.00.09, when I go to Creative's site and look for downloads, all they show is version 1.0xxxx as the latest EAX console...strange

Sorry, I forgot I have a ZS now so maybe it has a different version number. The last downloadable seems to be 1.00.54.

Dunno.
On the Creative Labs Europe website, the Audigy 1 is listed as supporting EAX4 with the new drivers.
