Well... I had started writing a bitch about not being able to get out of 60MHz refresh rate using Advanced\Adapter, when something made me take a second look at the properties.
Then I realized that under Advanced\Displays there was a setting for monitor where I could manually set the maximum resolution and refresh rate. Which I now find very cool, but scared me for a while.
So my veredict for Rage Pro chipset cards is: Go for it.
I've been waiting for these new drivers since February. Now my TV, that was having a terrible reception with the old drivers, has improved considerably. Not great as in W98 yet, but much better than yesterday.
Thinking back at it, it seems funny now. There I was changing the resolution from 1240 to 1600 and the monitor staying the same while the numbers had changed. Or changing it to 100MHz and still seeing the 60MHz flicker.
I don't know if my setting got fixed so low because I have a dual display or because they're still beta drivers. Or both. But they should have a big warning for people that don't read the instructions, like me 🙂 , talking about this new second set of settings.
In all, I'm happy.
Now there is only one set of drivers missing for my W2k system, the hopeless Logitech VC camera. It is so hopeless that I went ahead and bought a 3Com camera and shelved the damned bastard.
Thanks again, brianafischer.
